I tried searching but just found something about needing disc 3.xx? What happens when the maps change and need updating? I've never had a SatNav before but always thought they needed updating every few months as the roads change. Do you have to buy a new disc every time? Is there any software update? SatNavs have enough problems as it is with sending you down newly created one way streets.

You buy a new disc to update everything....

Yep as Dan said you need to purchase a new disk. There not cheap Honda charge about £160.
Updates are for things like TOM TOM.

That's rubbish. Would have thought Honda would be smarter than that. :( Guess I should look for a non-SatNav Accord from now on then and save £200 for an updatable windscreen-licker.

Map updates are pretty useless on tomtom style Sat navs. But I agree the cds are too expensive.

Trev its a very good system IMO

Really? In what way?

Sorry I'm a NavNoob, don't really understand how so many people get lost with SatNav and end up turning into a field or a river or something, ***umed it was because the Nav wasn't updated?

You still have to pay for updates, but it is not that that makes people drive into fields. It is the routing software. Every system has its flaws, and Honda's system does have some funny ideas. It is great for eta information, but not for finding the best route. Integrated systems are also far nearer, don't get stolen, lost or forgotten.

OK, in that case what disc should I be looking for in the little slot? I read 3.xx is OK, and 3.64(?) is the latest?

Hallelujah, you have seen the light. The OEM satnav is rubbish, get a tomtom unit and have a happy drive.

I tend to update mine every 2-3 years with only genuine disks.
Personally iv nether been lost with mine even with a 3 year old disk in my old car.
The screen is large and clear and voice activated. Also i think it sets the car off with a bit of class rather than having one stuck to the screen.
TBH i would not be without mine but that's me ;)

Obviously you have never used a tomtom satnav then?
Iv not used one myself Krasimir but mates of mine have them.
To be honest i prefer mine as im used to it ;)

I prefer my TomTom for the 3D view as you drive, missed a few turns with the Honda 2D view in the past. When a road changes it can take a while before the new maps show the changes. There are 2 new roads near me it shows up as a dotted line on the Honda 2010 disc even though the roads have been open for sometime now, it all depends on when Teleatlas or NavTeq do the map update.

I have had both tomtom (2 versions), copilot live (versions 6, 7 & 8), Mio maps and currently Android navigator.

None if them are better or faster than reading a map, although Android integrates nicely with web searching.

Frankly I would rather the tidier integrated system rather than a screen mount with cables dragging everywhere looking cheap and nasty.

I do use android in the van though as its part if the phone.

I suppose I could pay for premium navigation on my HTC, got a car plug just need a holder. Although I agree the built in unit looks nice and flashy with controls for everything else.

Using TomTom Truck in the truck with Live Services comes in Very handy with the traffic updates, I still use maps to check its routing me the right way. I cant do battle with the idiots on the road, change gear every 30 seconds and read a map at the same time as watching where the trailer is going so it comes in handy having it.

I do prefer the integrated system rather than stuck on the windscreen and cables jobbie which does just look a mess.

I had the live services on CoPilot for a while, and they wee slightly better than the TMC system, but only in that the jams were on a distance bar on the side of the screen.

I suppose the POI's are marginally easier to search through on a separate unit, but how often does one really use them? ATM's, Post Office and Fuel were the only ones I used regularly.

I do consider the Honda one basic in appearance, so if I were to get another car/van with it in, the system would have to be a bit slicker. But then I'm lucky, I have a fairly good mental map of the South of England anyway ;).

One annoying thing I have had with phone based Sat Nav - especially Android.... I am often going faster than the damn screen can keep up. Missed many turns because of that as well. Dedicated Tomtoms and the Honda only ever caused that on roundabouts :D.

using the 3.52 latest disc is fine and works superbly on my 2007 accord, updated it from 3.06 fine.

Now have the east disc aswell, if anyone is after a disc thats created properly with the proper media let me know, it's made a big difference here in bristol as it now shows the new cabot circus shopping area etc.

Hi I'm knew to this forum. Just wondering, is anyone selling a navigation dvd version 2.xx, dont mind a copy either

Welcome to TA Mo,

Post a quick introduction in the Newbie section...

What year is you car? Facelifts can have version 3.xx.

Avoid copies... Have a little search and you'll see why (not to mention it is against forum rules ;))

Dan, this whole thing about copies is complete hog wash, i've dealt with them for years on audi's and now hondas and never had anyone tell me that the disc has caused the drive to fail,

hogwash.

I've been using a copy for about a year and now the drive has failed, it has over worked the laser they say. Shame because it worked very well for a good amount of time in the UK and abroad :-(

And now it cant re-boot to the old disk because I have loaded a newer version into the Sat Nav...

I have learnt that it is best to either stick with the old disk or pay the price...

Boo :-(

There is a way of reverting to the old disc as long as the laser is OK... Should be on the site somewhere.

Fingers crossed eh :D

I've read horror stories about copied discs in the Hondas. I can't speak for other brands, but the Honda Sat Nav does not like a copied disc. Frankly, they're not that keen on the legit ones. I might be wrong, but I believe the fail rate of the disc drives in the 7th gen is pretty high  .

Do most people leave the disc in all the time? Or just have it in a holder and put it in when you need routing?

I leave mine in...less chance of losing/damaging it IMHO.

I leave mine in too but don't bother using the nav unless I need it which aint very often.
