Rust in passenger footwell

I noticed something was "off" when I was cleaning the car. I heard a squelch when I put weight on the floor near to the sill.

Took the carpet up and spotted this;


Full length from the firewall to the passenger seat is rusty.

Foam is also soaked:


What I don't understand is the carpet is basically rubber so the water hasn't been on it. It's somehow got under it.

I'm taking it to honda as it's under both the structural corrosion warranty and the approved used warranty but has anyone experienced similar issues?

Hmmm, maybe we should all be checking this out on our 7th gens, just in case. It's not a place you'd normally look at. Good shout! Hopefully this is a one off.

I found a spot of rust on my boot seal, the strange thing was there was none under the seal and non on the boot ? Just on the rubber it's self

Update to this; It's an old/broken door seal, the rust was surface rust so they cleaned it off and have applied new grease/sealant over the seam, better than a scary fix!

I just have to wait for them to get the seal and to fit it.
