Anyone else having issues with this? Becoming a real pain, had the drivers rear calliper changed in March 2010 after it seized and ruined the disc, then in Feb 2011 had to have the passenger rear one changed after the same thing happened again. Get out the car tonight and that familiar smell, feel the rear drivers side wheel and it's red hot so calliper seizing again. getting rather fed up with this and the cost. Anyone shed any light on the issue, how to stop it etc. is there something I can do myself without shelling out £200 for another calliper? Cheers...

this is a fairly well documented issue.

first i would:
Change rear flexi brake pipes (these tend to corrode internally and then refuse to work correctly thereafter.
Dont bother buying new callipers again. remove them and check that all the seals are ok and that you can wind them back in (with a windback tool).
get some one to ease the brake pedal and ensure the piston pushes out from the calliper ***embly smoothly.

with your continued issue i would put most of my money of the flexi hose's being toast.

You dont need a windback tool for the tourer, you can just use grips to push it back in but be carefull not to damage the piston seal.

A small block of wood and a G clamp is best IMO

Did you not get the hoses replaced when your brakes seized the first time? If you took it to Honda, they should have done that. That's what did with mine (I think anyway  )

First one wad Honda second ex dealer now Jap car specialist. Really doing my head in as work for myself & need the car but don't like to drive it with a dodgy brake...

no, just buy a new part (dont know if it HAS TO BE OEM or not)

this should fix your problem though as i doubt a year's worth of motoring would seize a calliper!

Nearly 2 years on this one, inert 20k though & driven regularly. Will have a chat with the garage in the morning. Let's hope it doesn't cost too much...

20k driving should not cause a genuine calliper to seize unless your submearging the thing in salt water.

If the hoses have not been changed, then as i have said before, i bet thats the real fault.

The hoses in the original accord are pants. They corrode and the flaky gunk that corrodes off clocks and seizes the callipers. They must replace the hoses to prevent it happening again in the near future. Otherwise, it's like painting over a crack. It'll just reappear in a few weeks, know what I mean. I'm pretty sure the replacements are different from the original too, so you shouldn't get the same problem in years to come, after another 100K or whatever.

Ok booked in on Monday for new rear brake lines, not too cheap at £110 fitted, they are also getting a calliper in on standby too, let's hope the discs are ok, pads only just changed so fingers crossed there too. Thanks for all the help, I hope this sorts the issue out...

Fingers crossed for you man. Although the discs and pads can be pretty tough. I thought I'd cooked a 3 month old set of discs and pads in October when this happened to me. Honda said they were fine, had stood up the heat no problem ;) . Good luck with it all and let us know how you get on.

Yes thank you, hoping you guys are right with the hoses, garage hadn't heard of it before and like I said Honda didn't mention anything when the 1st one was done. Still it's only money I could be spending on all new suspension for the MR2 :( ...
