Hi there,

I've got a question - I've read a number of threads where it's been recommended that you should perform a service with only genuine parts. Has anyone got definitive reasons for this?

With all of my past cars, I've always had success with ordering service parts from places like eurocarparts. I've always had work done on my cars in the same way for 10 years, I've had my friend (a self-taught mechanic of over 30 years) carry out work on my cars at his home, as he has a garage full of tools - I'll buy the parts and he'll do the work.

If it really is the general consensus that genuine parts are essential to use, where is the best/cheapest place to get them?

Thanks,
Mark

according to most ppl here on forum, ideally use a genuine fuel filter the rest is up to you.

The consensus of using genuine service parts is always encouraged but as you say most cars will run fine on third party brands.
I have been messing about with cars for a long time and you do notice the difference in the quality between genuine and non genuine stuff, I keep my cars for long so always want them to last hence always using genuine honda items

The only exception is the honda diesel fuel filter. Always use a genuine honda item for this part. It has been known that the diesel engine/fuel system can be extremely fussy. With very tight tolerances within the genuine filter using a non genuine one can stick the car in limp mode and cause the engine light to come on etc. There are numerous threads about this and it has been widely covered.

With the petrols its not so much of an issue but it all depends how much you care for your car.

Genuine items can be bought from HH (holdcroft honda) or coxmotorparts

Hope this helps

Other than the fuel filter the price difference is pretty small so it's not worth risking it with non genuine parts and I save my money by doing it myself.I did a major service last year so this one will be really cheap as I have the oil already.

I will say my car did have a non genuine fuel filter on till I changed it and I never experienced any problems with it.

On the petrol versions I'll only ever use genuine Honda oil filters because they have a rolling seal that makes it very easy to remove and change. The cheap ones are a nightmare to remove in the tight space that there is to work. The only other thing to be very careful with is power steering fluid. Never use non Honda stuff as the pump is very fussy and they tend to fail if you use the wrong stuff.
