Hi all
My accord has a bad shudder when I set my foot on the brakes. It is really bad if I hit the brakes hard and not so bad if I brake lightly. I had this problem exactly a year ago and replaced front discs and pads. This cured the problem for a while but bad as ever again now. Just wondering if anyone would have any ideas as to the cause of the problem.
Thanks
Bernard

Hi Bernard and welcome to the forum. Can you fill the brake shudder through the pedal and steering if so it might be your disks shot again.
What disks did you replace with last time ?
Also something not to rule out is play in the drive shaft.Best bet is get the car on a ramp to check this and inspect your disks and calipers.

Welcome to the Forum. What Brett says ;)

Hi Brett
Yes you feel it really bad through the steering but not so much through the pedal. I changed the 2 front discs last time. Could this be a sticking caliper that is causing the discs to warp. If so how could I find out which one is sticking.
Is there any possibility it could be back brake discs calipers e.t.c
Thanks for your help.

Bernard your best bet is get the car on a ramp or Axel stands to have a good look what is going on.Check the wear on your pads and look for any scorching on the disks.
Also spin the wheel to see if it spins freely with a slight resistance. When was your brake fluid changed last?

Hi Bernard,

Well the obvious thing to check is the rotors (discs) for warping and this is the most common reason for the pulsing in the steering wheel. However, it also could be a loose bushing that is moving under the braking load. You mentioned that the pads/discs were replaced 1 year ago, were these genuine?

Cheers Brett will try that

Hi Jason
The pads and discs were genuine. I would agree with you that it is yet another warped disc. Just concerned as to why this has happened again. Could it be a sticking caliper. Also is there any chance it could be back brakes.

Bernard normally rear brakes will not do this but if the car is on the ramp its worth having a look as well.
The Accord front brakes are normally very good its the rear calipers that has problems.

Unlikely to be the back brakes as you're getting so much pulsing through the front - but it could be. As Brett has said, it's the rear of the tourers give the grief generally not the saloon.

A intermittently sticking could cause pulsing, but generally this happens when you've released the brakes and the caliper is still on the disc, causing it to heat-up and eventually warp.

If you look at the front discs through the wheels do the look evenly worn/scored?

Unfortunately, the only way to rule in/out the discs and pads it to replace them with new ones OR of course measure them for warping into the service limits. If they discs are relatively new, you could get them skimmed? Though, it'll probably be near enough to the cost of replacement.
