Hello,

This is my first post, so hello

I wanted the expert's opinion on a car i'm thinking about buying. I need to get myself a cheap estate to do some donkeywork by Friday, I'm close to pulling the trigger on one I've seen, it is a 2004 2.0 petrol Auto exec with near 150,000 on the clock. It has a FHSH and recent rear bearings and front discs/pads. It's up for around £1400ono and is very local to me. Also has 12 months MOT. My plan is to run it for around a year and hopefully sell on

Now i'm not usually one to shy away from high mileage cars, having bought cars with 170 and 180k respectively. The only thing concerning me is the auto box. Are they known to fail on these cars? Or even the engine? Anything I need to look out for? From the description it seems that it has been well looked after, but I'd just like to hear some opinions before I make any kind of commitment.

Thanks!

I've never heard of any auto box problems, as for engines I have a 2.4 manual which will hit 150k next week and still going strong.

I've two accord tourers both diesel ictdi 250k bought with 47k on clock IDTEC 230K bought with 63k on clock
Both manual they say the petrols are bullet proof
Can't help regards the auto but I'm after one so will be interested to see the replies

Auto boxes are rock solid just like the manual versions. If it hasn't been done recently, then renew the automatic transmission fluid with genuine honda ATF.

It should not be a problem, if it has full Honda history.
How many owners?

As with most cars, if they haven't been thrashed in their life, then they will easily do 200,000 miles.
And Honda Accord should do 250,000 miles easily.

Question you need to ask is, "what is your alternative"

A type V is a 6th gen car.
My grandfather had one back when they were new. Beautiful car to drive. Better interior quality than the 7th gen like I have anyway.
