Spit Turbo Leaking - 199k Miles Worth Fixing?

Hi,

Just been told by my garage that the turbo is split on my 11 plate 199k mile Tourer, it's been running fine otherwise, is it worth getting a new turbo or cut my losses? It's going to cost £1000 which seems a bit steep.

I can see you can buy 2nd ones for around £300 on eBay, is that worth a punt or just foolish?

What do you mean by split? What symptoms does the car exhibit? Any fault codes?

That's what the garage said, there's smoke and a burning diesel smell coming from passenger side of engine. Don't know about fault codes, no error codes on the dash.

It should be fine, these cars are broken up because of accident damage, so everything ought to work. You just need to ask a garage to fit it and guarantee the work but not the part.

Make sure your garage fully flushes the internal oilways and any pipes before fitting.

Change the engine oil at least once after running in.

That’s not a split turbo mate. That’s a cracked egr pipe. Find a better garage.
