2014 Honda Accord ES
Having a 2014 IDEC ES GT diesel with 96500 miles i have had a steering wheel and exclamation sign come up on my display and a steering becomes stiff. I switch off ignition and start engine and everything works again as normal. this has happened about 4 times now, so what does anybody think is worn. ? It is electric steering . Could it be as simple as brushes on the commutator worn like on a dynamo ? Your help would be much appreciated.

Could be a faulty EPS module, I’ve seen them fail on the 8th gen Accord. Needs to be plugged in to retrieve the diagnostic error codes.

Just back from garage and i need a replacement electric steering rack. Trying to see a re manufactured one on ebay. can anyone recommend a company that they have used ?

How have they diagnosed it to be the rack and not just the module?

They say it was down to electrical impulses on the motor warming up and cutting out. I have always trusted this garage for the last ten years and been well treated. I did mention the module to them as the weak link on the 8th generation.

I’ve personally never heard of that happening and not seen any rack failures, but have seen failed modules like I said previously. Worth asking for a copy of the actual codes they retrieved.

With what you have said and not wanting to upset a good friend at the garage i have booked a diagnostic check at Honda tomorrow. Get a second opinion and take it from there. Had a price of a new EPS module from Honda at £1137, Looks like ebay for a second hand one and a re manufactured rack for £400 on ebay .
