Hi,
I'd appreciate some advice on a minor issue I've been having with my pre-facelift i-cdti recently. Occasionally when the car has first been started up it really struggles to rev and stalls quite easily. The problem clears up when the engine has warmed up.

These are exactly the symptoms i had before my EGR valve became stuck. To solve it permanently I now have a stage 1 map with EGR delete.

Is it possible the EGR could still cause issues even though it's been mapped out? What about the IMRC gubbins? does the engine still use it when the EGR has been mapped out.

I don't think its a turbo or fuel pump / filter related becuase the engine behaves normally when its warmed up. I took the car for an italian tune up earlier which seems to have helped, but won't know for sure until I start the car tomorrow morning!

Thanks in advance for any help.

Maybe the EGR valve is sticking open, despite the map telling it to close? Perhaps it needs to also be blanked, but that would depend if you also have P-code deletion?

Hopefully Fahad will be here soon!

Hi Geoff - definitely possible, which is why we introduced the manual EGR blanking option.

Drop me a PM, let's see how I can help. I know you are a real distance away so you may need to buy a flash tool off ebay and i'll map it remotely with manual delete and you can fit a little blanking plate yourself. Easily solved.

Hi Fahad,
I'm going to take the valve off later today and see what's going on. Thanks for the offer of help - I'll be in touch when I've got a better idea of whats going on in there!

Might not be seating correctly that's all

Well I've had a look in the EGR valve now - the valve was fully closed but I'd kind of expected that as it was driving normally yesterday. There was a bit of soot in there but nothing major. The valve seemed really reluctant to move at first so I'm guessing its opening partially on start up and staying there until the engine's warmed through enough for it to re-seat. I've cleaned it up again which should buy me another 6 month's reprieve again.

Fahad I'll send you a PM about options for blanking and manual delete.
