Hi All - hopefully there is someone that can help!
The Problem: The tailgate does not stay open.
Diagnositcs: No tail gait warning light. Power open / close works fine. Locks fine. In the summer (warm day) its often ok but when cold or parked on slope it allways falls closed (usually after a lag just long enough for me to get my head underneath and think that it will hold!).

This suggests to me that 'strut' replacement is required.

To replace the struts I understand head lining (ceiling) removel is required... gulp! I spoke to my local garage and they did not want to take it on. Spoke to Honda and they suggested £60 diagnostic & £400 if it is found to be the struts.

Questions:
1 Do you agree strut replacement is the solution.
2 Anyone ever done this: where & cost?

New struts sold on internet for £90.

I know tailgate issues have been discussed previously but I could not find anything specific on strut replacement.
Thanks in advance for help.

I had exactly the same problem with mine, fortunately I was still within Honda Happyness!! so Honda replaced the struts FOC and no problems since.

Hi Ed
Sounds very much like the struts have given up.
Try these guys for replacement parts http://www.sgs-engineering.com/gas-struts/car-boot-tailgate?gclid=CJy55JO9i64CFQnd4AodWmUG5g they have direct repalcements for pre facelift Tourers much cheaper than Honda.

Use the search facility there was a DIY on how the change the struts which was very good with photo's to guide you
Accessing the units is a pain, actually changing them a simple spanner job, no special tools required

If you go for a DIY fix, keep us posted with how you get on. I'm in the same position, but want someone else to go first!

THIS has just gone up. Might give it a go when the weather improves...
