Right i got the bad news the other day that my timing chain needs replacement, when i first bought the car i rang the garage over in England where it had all its service history from, i asked if it had all the recalls on it which they said it had, when i found out about the timing chain i rang again and asked them about the timing chain and they said there was no recalls on the chain on my car, it has 143K miles on it so no hope of getting honda to pay for it, ive been searching around and cant find anywhere that does a timing chain kit, Honda is asking for 900 + VAT  (not fitted) just wondering do i try and find spurious chain kit or do i just go and get robbed by Honda??

Call up several Honda dealers asking for their best price and try to haggle them down. Most dealers are just franchised so you should be able to negotiate a little. At least by getting it done at a Honda dealer if it will be done right and hopefully last another 143k.

Officially they did not recall any cars, the chain warranty was applied to cars that they inspected upon customer request.

Notice you are in Ireland, could you maybe get into the UK? A member on here, 'hondavtecr' runs his own shop near Manchester and he could potentially change it for you.

My advice whatever you do get a genuine Honda kit even if a Honda dealer does not do the work. Also the injectors are often difficult to remove and are damaged when trying to remove them. Some members have soaked the injectors overnight before trying to remove them. Not sure what they have sued to soak the injectors though

€900 + VAT just for the chain and elements? They are having a laugh. The bulk of the cost should be labour as there's a mountain of work to be done here.

I'd even consider getting the chain replacment kit from the UK, for example here's a genine one for £510, so circa €640 including VAT! We are seriously ripped off over here.

Then I'd get a good independent to fit this for you.

I'm sure the €900 quotation is a conservative estimate from the dealer, as you don't know what needs replacing until you get in their and check. The basics, oil pump chain and timing chain, then check if new tensioners and guides are needed too.

Incorrect oil use, poor service history, plenty of things that can lead to a potential timing chain issue, but Honda must know something, otherwise why would they cover some of them on extended warranty

which ones are covered?

i know that petrols can take a lot of abuse and no oil changes for 20k+ miles would not trouble many of them., petrols are also pretty lax on oil and can take a few types.

has this has its oil changes, tbh a chain should not fail at all...

unless there is something about them failing on diesels?
Thats what i thought .... Until my 03 plate 2.4 started misfiring erratically , randomly and then failed to start at all ... After 3 days investigation by a local honda dealer the answer was .... A ' stretched ' not snapped timing chain ... Ive not heard many cases of this to this day but they replaced it and car was fine again ......at the time i was like " is that even possible ? " having read a few threads now it seems it was lol god bless TA

timing chains are internal, i dont think they are ever meant to be replaced under normal service routines.

compared to belts which have to go.

if a chain breaks i would not be a happy chap once the car is looked after.

Right so just got the timing chain done in the accord at a final fitted price of 1000 euro and now ive had to replace my DMF,i bought a DMF when i had a look at the CG 8 paddle clutch (8K miles on it) it was badly damaged and uneven wear on it, might have been from when the DMF failed or something ? i have a stage 2 map and was wondering would a stage 2 kevlar clutch be better and not be so wearing on the DMF as opposed to another 8 paddle clutch?
