Following on from my post in the newbie section I have had contrasting diagnosis from two main agents who have looked at my '08 GT Sport Tourer. I've had the car about 3 months now and mileage stands at 88k currently. The noise clatter (when ticking over and at low speed) was begining to play on my mind that it was louder than I expected it to be. This suspicion only got worst after driving an FRV of the same engine and age.
My local dealer said "there is definitely a slight rattle there from the chain knocking against the the engine, something we just need to keep an eye on". As the I''ve only had the car a short while I thought I'd take this up with the dealer I bought it from , who verbally agreed to all repair/replace at no cost to me if they agreed with the diagnosis.
Unsurprisingly the honda dealer I bought it from (John Banks in Suffolk) do not agree - "we've had 3 technicians look at it and they all agree there is no noise coming from the chain" . End of story as far as they are concerned.
I've been back to the local dealer who first diagnosed the problem and they have said that Honda UK have told them that if they submit a claim for the timing belt Honda will authourise the tensioners to be replaced. BUT if this doesn't solve the problem I will have to pay for said tensioners and pay for any further diagnosis (strip it out) and if it's the chains I would have to pay for them also.
I'd just be interested in hearing people's thought's/opinions on the next steps?
At the minute I'm thinking bite the bullte on the fuel cost and let the boys at Holdcroft have a look/listen and then take it up with Honda UK if Holdcroft diangose the problem that the selling dealer doesn't agree with. Speaking to Tony there it seems highly unlikely that the problem would be the tensionsrs anyway, though I could have mis-understood?
