Two chains.
I only have the Mk7 but have you tried a full oil change (flush/filter/cheap oil/drain oil/filter and recommended oil ) ?
About £90 but it will tell you if the previous owners scrimped on servicing or a tensioner is sticking, before spending upwards of a thousand.
Worthwhile ?

Yes, oil is all clean and always has been with oil change every 5k. Car still runs well, originally sorted by Fahad at Premier tuning. Thanks for the reply.
