Hi I'm new here... I have said hello in the newbie section :)

I have recently purchased a 2004 Tourer 2.0vtec and have a few slight issues....

The car has a broken O/S/R tail light..... they guy rang a Honda dealer and was quoted £94 for a replacement so I got him to knock a extra £100 of the price thinking I'd be able to pick one up cheaper from ebay or a breakers etc... It seems this quote was for the light on the tailgate and not the one on the body, which appears to be like rocking horse whatsit... I have googled and trawled the internet and done the breaker yard search...findapart etc without success apart from be quoted £120 for a second hand one... does anyone know of a way around this, aftermarket? or have I just got to keep my eyes open on ebay?

Also...it seems I have the infamous tailgate problem.... it beeps 3 times when trying to open and then shuts itself again... If I help it start manually it will lift up using the motor. same on closing, I have to give it a helping hand before it closes itself again on the motor.. the tailgate struts are strong enough to hold it open but not enough for it to open on its own without the motor....so i gather I need new tailgate struts? whats the cheapest option for this... SGS?

Lastly my reverse parking sensors don't work everytime, sometimes it beeps for a long time and then doesn't work, but the next time it will...is this just one of the sensors...if so is this a cheap repair?

Apologies if these have all been answered elsewhere I have searched and read up on what I can..

Hi Barry. Welcome to TA mate. The tourer boot issue (the beeping and not doing anything) normally lies in a failed motor. It is/was covered by a 7 year warranty which I guess your is expired. But it's always worth pushing for something with Honda as the boot is a recognised fault and it costs about £1K (including labour) to put right otherwise.

Regards the tail light, I think you've missed a number off the original quoted price so I'm not sure how much we're talking here. I think the cheapest you can get from a salvage/breakers yard is probably your best option. Lights I find are aways shockingly expensive.

Parking sensors, I don't know anything about as I don't have them.

I'd say go the breakers route for the tail light as that's fairly urgent. Then pester Honda about the tailgate. I've managed to wangle things just out of warranty to be labour costs only, the part for free. It helps if you've had the car a while though and get it serviced with them. My local Honda are very good in that respect and always treat me very well.

Thanks for the advice... regarding the tailgate the motor seems to work fine, it just need a helping hand at the start which makes me think its the struts.... they do hold the tailgate open but for example if it is open halfway they are not strong enough to push it open... so when you help it at the very start it then opens and closes on the motor just fine...

Yes the original quote was for the inner tail light which is not the one I'm after... ~They seem to be in plentiful supply and a damn sight cheaper than the outer.... why is that!!?

thanks Brodziu for the offer but as stated it is the outer o/s/r tail light I need... I will keep trawling the internet and breakers yards... cheers
 
If you can't get a light cluster from a breakers, then you have to get one from a dealer. They're item numbers 6 and 7 here.
Dealer price for 6 and 7 at this moment is .... £112.81 each (I don't think you mean items 14 and 16 ) You can get a 10% discount and free delivery from HH (Holdcroft Honda), see the HH section in the forum. You need to call them and say you're a member of this forum to get the discount. You might need the code word, I can't remember it, you might have to send a pm to admin etc.

I think your tailgate is like mine (though mine is not as bad). The more you use it .... :lol: but seriously that seems to be true. The system needs greasing I think, not done mine yet. See this guide in the DIY section to get a feel for access to it all.

Parking sensors, give them a good clean, it usually stops the issue you describe (which I also get occasionally). If this doesn't help, then you might have a loose wire. The cables come through into the loom beneath the plastic finisher (the bit that holds the metal strips). Don't try to remove the metal strips, just remove the inner boot thing, then you will see that the plastic strip is one-piece, just pull hard on the mother and it starts to come up, if you pull really hard it will just come away in one go. You can feel the loom under it, and when it's off, you can see the loom, and the 4 connectors for the sensors. If you want to delve deeper to the sensors themselves, you'll have to remove the bumber, which is quite easy in fact.
