Trickle Charge - 45Ah Petrol Battery

Has anyone ever tried trickle charging the original 45Ah petrol battery, how long did it take?

I left mine on a 4Ah trickle at around 6.30pm yesterday and it's still charging now, almost 28 hours later. I had hoped it'd be be back in the car fully charged by now.

Have you tried a battery tester on it to see if it's taking a charge as sometimes if a battery has fully discharged a normal home charger can't give it the initial kick it needs to start it charging and I know this for a fact as it happened to me so took it to my local garage who used their garage charger to do it and only cost me a fiver .

How do you know it's still charging... are you relying on the charger to tell you? My battery charger doesn't reliably tell me when a 'fully charged' state has been achieved. Your's won't be pushing a constant 4 Amps through the battery, as lead/acid batteries are charged with a constant voltage anyway and then battery passes whatever current it needs, so 4A would be the limited maximum.
