Wheel barring replacement

Hi Guys

I'm a serious newbie of just 1 day who's actually from California but will be living in the UK for some time. I just swapped my old V reg Saab 93 convertible for an X reg Honda accord 2L coupe nice car low mileage for the year with only 91000 very tidy inside and out but with a whirring sound coming from the passenger rear wheel which I ***ume to be a barring that is on its way out.

I have looked on line and have seen some quite expensive kits and costs for fitting at over £200.00 in total but I wonder if it is possible to ether buy a good used or reconditioned barring kit from a scrap yard or online for fitting for a short term solution or if not I wondered if any of you guys know where I can get the job done for a reasonable price with a cheap generic product or any other solution in the Oldham area of Lancashire.

All ***istance will be accepted and greatly appreciated.

:lol: I know this forum can be slow to refresh and so double posting is fairly common, but this is the best one I've ever seen. I make it 8 identical posts. A New TA Record :lol: .

Anyway, welcome along to the forum Dude. I'm sure one of the 6th Gen guys will be along shortly to offer some help. But if you're able to take a quick video of the noise, that could help a diagnosis.

I presume you mean wheel bearing (not barring)

If so, plenty available on ebay ...... "honda accord rear wheel bearing 2000 2.0"

e.g. this one for £44.49 and I would think any garage can fit it for you for about £30 to £40 labour.
 
Welcome Gary. A little post trigger happy I see. Not to worry I have cleaned the posts up for you.
Please only post once when adding a topic.

In terms of your problem it could maybe be the tyre that you have on. We have had cases on here with similar problems and it turned out to be the tyre making the noise.
However it can be the bearing. I would search eBay mate for a bearing kit. Think it will be a whole hub ***embly I'm a afraid. Do make sure you get the right one as some are designed for abs which I ***ume your car has.
Do get some pictures up mate of the motor.
 
Welcome along mate my advice is buy new and not 2nd hand on this part.If its the same set up as the 7th&8th gen then you can just replace the bearing on the front.
The rear is a complete new hub.
Also there a pig to get out and you will probably have to take the hub off and press the bearing out rather than a pulling tool.

Thanks buddy will do I'm not in any great rush the noise is annoying but not to much of a problem as yet.

Hi buddy I havent heard back from anyone else so can you suggesst any other resources that I can try.

Hey dude and welcome along.

First to eliminate the obvious, change the front and rear wheels over to see if this helps.

Also whilst the wheel is off have a good inspection of the disk, disk guard and the pads. It could be a stone lodged in there somewhere.

When you brake does the noise stop or get louder? Also does it still squeak when in reverse?

Thanks buddy

it starts whirring at about ten mph then it gets louder with use seems to lessen when brakes are applied don't think it does it in reverse but not sure I will check I will get the other checks done tomorrow then report back as to the results .

Checked when the brakes are applied the noise lessens and noise goes away in reverse I'm going to do the wheel change tomorrow and then report back to you guys regarding exactly what happens once that has been done.

Hi Gary, if it lessens under braking then I think it's a brake wear indicator. Are you familiar with these?

Bearing noise will usually come and go when you drive around bends, as the weight (and hence loading) alters.

No not familiar with brake wear indication in that regard but the noise does lessen during tight cornering and the guy I bought the car from said this was the rear bearing but I will have it checked tomorrow in any case as I do want to get this fixed as otherwise except for the drivers mirror this is a great clean and tidy car. that's fun to drive and cheaper than my former Saab to run.
