Hi Guys,

Been away a while, Honda so reliable haven't had any questions

Anyway, finally invested in a Witter detachable Tow Bar, went for the flanged version to reduce risk of damage when hitching up.

Tow bar delivered Friday, and dropped off at my friendly mechs for fitting today, paid £100-00 for car specific wiring sold to me on basis just plugged straight in, therefore reducing fitting costs. Oh dear, Mech called to say needs cutting into loom, not plug and play, and therefore fitting costs would be up considerably

As he already had bumper etc off had to let fit go ahead, but called supplier to complain, they said only 80% of kits plug in, but they didn't tell me mine was one of 20% that didn't, even though I asked question.

Anyone have any experience on the wiring side, should the Accord be a straight plug in option, how involved is the wiring in process?

Think I'm gonna end up spending £150-00 on fitting :(

Be interested in your thoughts guys.

Regards

Simon

Oh sorry, just seen you've fitted it.

Only option now is pay up and smile.

Shame you couldn't get a refund, as I think the Honda one is around 130? Can you ask the supplier to put some money towards it?

If you don't mind, can you take a piccie when you get the car back? Im after a descreet tow bar, just trying to figure whats best atm

Cheers, J

Simon i did say this on a previous thread to another member .Are you having 2 electric sockets ? if so you also need to take a feed from the battery to back of the car for each socket.
A trailer specialist supplied and fitted mine for £450 and they done a cracking job.
Honda Bristol fitted one on my 7th GEN and completely messed it up.I was back there time and time again.
As for plug and play you need to splice into the big connector in the boot i think.

Simon, did they end up cutting in to the bumper with this tow bar? Seem to be getting mixed messages off the net!

Definitely cut, would have to be careful to keep to a min. or could be seen on removal.

Went for the flanged system so that I would still have a bumper guard, have instructions so if you pm your email address I will scan you a copy.

Really pleased with the bar and will post some pictures soon, all I would say is my mech said a lot of work to fit car specific kit, cost me £160 to fit!!!!

Hi mate

I fitted a Witter towbar to my 04 estate- easy as pie- also bought the Accord Specific wiring - it was £120 and i expected it to take max 15 minutes - wrong!!

I had to remove the panels on the right side of the the boot and get access to the wiring and actually cut wires in the loom, add spade connectors and basically make up 4 plugs with 6 connectors in each - THEN plug the kit into these....!!

Having fitted one to a Vectra which took me 10 minutes- the whole saga took me over 5 hours!!

My problem was that when cutting the wires, there was very little margin for error as they are quite short and trying to crimp connectors to them was a mare! Another issue was getting the power cable from the rear of the car to the battery as there are no holes in the bulkhead! i routed the cable to the passenger footwell and found a rubber plug in the floor- put the cable through there and inside the front wheel arch cover.

hope you have better luck than me! I think the kit for the saloon is easier to fit
