Hi all.. I'm after a little info on diagnosing my VSA light.
Firstly the background.....

2005 2.2 CDTI Accord
VSA light and triangle permenatly on
ABS light NOT on
112,000ish miles
No warranty

I've done quite a bit of looking on here and understand that there is a big problem with the VSA modules on these era diesel accords.
The light simply came on one day last December and never went off.
After looking on here I didn't worry too much as the VSA is a good thing but not essential.
I've just read earlier tho that it will now be considered an MOT failure and as mine is due in April I've had to rethink my 'ignore it' mentality.

Firstly I still need to do the basics such as check fuses etc but I don't currently have my manual with me so I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on fuse locations etc for me?

Secondly I need to get the actual problem/code confirmed as I might be lucky and avoid the 66-1 (fingers crossed)
Normally this would be a trip to local garage but from what I've read it needs to be a dealer or at least an independent with HDS diagnosing tools...
I know my local garage can't 'deep diagnose' Honda faults as my friend had a civic in last week with a power steering problem and they could only give him a generic code.
Now as Honda will be looking £60+ for simply plugging in I was thinking about buying a tool myself.

Problem is there are lots to choose from and I'm not 100% sure which to get. I know CJ has the kit already so I'm hoping he'll see this and help..?

ATM I'm looking at

And

Does anyone know which I should be looking at?

I'll keep you all posted on how things go.

Thanks

Hi Tom,

CJ isn't a member on this forum anymore i'm afraid.

It's a bit of trek from Lincolnshire but I offer a diagnostics service and have a HDS.

Cheers

Fahad

Fahad, thanks for the offer and the info. How much do you charge??

Halifax is prob outside my travelling range tho, hence why looking to buy a machine myself... Would either of the 2 I've suggested suit my needs?

Yep the second one will be fine but you need to locate the right software to use with it, and you'll need a laptop with a serial port.

I charge £30 or £45 including injector recalibrations.

Has anyone ever had success with just resetting the fault and that clearing the VSA problem?
Essentially, I'm asking is it possible the light came on when there was a (intermittent???) fault but doesn't clear itself?
Or does the light only show when there is an active fault??

Thanks.

if you only want to reset faults, I think that a cheap ODB2 reader will do that btw

Cheap OBD won't do the VSA light, and the HDS is much more than a simple universal tool. Once you learn how to use it, you can do some very powerful things with it.

Yes I believe it comes with a DVD but I don't believe all the sellers have the right working software, with all updates. Still worth the money though and you don't need to be a genius to work it.

Fahad.. From the reading I've done I def agree that the HDS is a powerful bit if kit.. It'll be capable of much more than I require.

Might give my local Honda a ring tomorrow and ask how much they'd charge to read the codes and then decide.

Thanks.

You could try any local motor factors that have access to something like a Snap On machine, they can also read the non engine modules.

I didn't think the snap on ones did non engine stuff? Do they just read the codes or can they reset them too?

I think I'm clearer now... The snap on machines are ur independent garage type kit that can do multiple manufacturers and cost £1k+
The generic OBDII are £40 on eBay and only give engine codes...

Is that correct?

I do agree with that.

I also suggest that the Snap-on machines will also read non-powertrain codes, such as VSA codes, but clearly some disagree.

they can do most codes, the run of the mill OBDs but they wont read specific information like VSA faults etc.

Sorry that's not correct. The Snap On tools can talk to all on vehicle modules. You might not be able to do some very deep things like get into climate control motors or wiper motors etc but they can do all the main on board diagnostics and even stuff like injector coding, DPF regens, immobiliser coding etc.

I know as I've used them for allsorts of stuff.

Yes mate, works across the range including the older 6th gens and the latest 8th gens.

Can anyone tell me, I've heard that they now do a repair kit for the faulty VSA modules, anyone know or heard about this?

ECUtesting.com do a repair on them for £165+vat and return postage with an unlimited mileage warranty.

It's where mine will be going v v soon

If it is any help I had an intermittent fault whereby the VSA light / triangle became illuminated and could only be got rid of by turning off the ignition. Turned out to be a faulty brake pedal switch which cost £55 to fix at my Honda dealer - excellent!
