Hi, I've had my ictdi 2004 for about 5 years now, currently on 240,000. I have changed lots of normal wear and tear bits over the years.
Noticed the engine while running fine is perhaps feeling the high mileage, looking at making it a bit more responsive.
What could I change or do that could potentially make a difference to the engine, glow plugs? Decent air filter? Engine flush? Egr removal and clean?
I don't want an egr blank. Just looking for ideas or should I just leave it as it is.
I feel the acceleration is sluggish, seems to be running fine otherwise.
Thanks

All a good to do list. Not sure the glow plugs would help. When did you do the fuel filter last?

Change fuel filter once a year before MOT, so it's 6 months old.
Do glow plugs make a difference? Potentially been in there for a very long time. Probably thinking of cleaning the egr, reckon that's clogged up, I do drive quite pedestrian until the MOT.

I think that would be a good start. Do you use the bosch fuel filter?

Yes always Bosch. Oil and air filter cheap ones, change oil twice year.
Think firstly perhaps sort the egr and glow plugs.

Egr blank and tune. Cleaning doesn’t really work. It will run better than ever

Glowplugs are for starting in cold weather and will not make a difference.

Have you listened for any new noises under the bonnet ?

240,000 miles ? the engine has only just run in.

Whilst I've not done it ,on mine, I would consider scraping/vacuuming carbon deposits from around the turbocharger piping

Thanks channel, stupid me of course no need to change the glow plugs. No new noises, engine is a peach really it's just perhaps I'd like it more responsive.
Haha yes the engine is just broken in, I'd love to get it over 300,000.
I think what I'll do is an egr clean, replace the 4 metal gaskets and have a look at the carbon deposits around the turbo. Otherwise than that perhaps I'll get a good system cleaner and leave it alone. If it's not broke dont fix it.
It is showing its age in many ways. Last thing was the heater matrix leak, so I bypassed that. Cracking engines though.

Just by chance I popped into the local Tesco just now and they have Redex DPF cleaner on sale for £3 (250ml).

It might be worth trying a bottle in a near empty tank before taking things apart (or use it directly on the turbo parts if you do start stripping)

Are you doing short trips more than long distance stuff ?

Hi channel, mine doesn't have dpf, however I will get some cleaner. I basically used the car for work, about 24 miles a day round trip. I drive quite relaxed so always needs a blasting before MOT.
Ill take the egr pipe off and have a look at what carbon build up there is.

I don't believe any series 7 has had one but it may be better than the stuff used for direct cleaning of egr piping before or after a good run.

Ah ok got ya, I'll look into it. So a dpf cleaner may blast it better.
Thanks for the advice channel.
