Accord ctdi 2006
Hi guys,

Just signed up as i'm off to buy a 2006 Accord EX I-CTDI tomorrow :D It has the satnav/dvd built in, FHSH, 82k miles and i'm paying £3400. Is this a good buy?

Anything I should look out for when I arrive. I don't know much about the satnavs, I presume I need to make sure it comes with the disk?

Other than that, I just wanted to ask how hard the facelift grill is to get hold of. Mine is a July 2006 but it doesn't have the newer chrome grill that seemed to come on the 56 plates ( i really like the newer grill). Is the grill the only difference or is there and other differences between the 06 and 56 plates? Mine comes with the 6th gear :D

Mike

Mike it seems a great buy at a fantastic price.

Yes you need collect the satnav DVD (it should be loaded already), locking wheelnut key, owners manual, satnav manual. service history, spare ignition key, logbook, MOT, receipted invoice. Oh and the car ;) [Anything else?]

Good luck with the paperwork and let's see some pics of the car after you collect it.

Thanks, I was reading the PDF about the 2006 facelift changes but my car seems to have some of the changes and not others. For instance my car doesn't have the chrome grill that has three chrome strips, it has the older style grill. But it does seem to have some of the other revisions mentioned in the articles like the new steering wheel with the round chrome circle. Strange, where some of these mentioned changes only phases in on the later 2006 cars (56)?

Hi Mike if you please have a search or use the google custom search box you will find all you need.

What other features have you got then?

Thanks, I will take some pictures when I collect. I have got a few from the advertisement but they are terrible pictures, that could be why I picked it up so cheaply. Here a few are, maybe you can cast your experience eye over my car because it seems to have some of the facelift changes (like the 6 speed gearbox and the new steering wheel etc) but not others (like the three striped chrome grill).

I posted a couple of pics, they're pretty poor mind but the advert was very poor that's why I think I got it cheap. It didn't even say it had a satnav, I only found that out when I asked for more pictures

or maybe its had a new front end?? maybe im a cynical jock but if that motors spot on then its a crracking buy.
im sure a few members would be dissapointed to find 7th gens going soo cheap.
let us know how you get on fella

I don't think it has mate. I looked at loads of 2006 Accord Ctdi's and they all seem to have the "new" steering wheel, but only the later 2006's seem to have the three striped chrome grill and the newer fog lights. Maybe there was an initial update as this seems to be conistant.. did the dials change in 2006 too? I wonder if mine has those, gues i'll find out tomorrow.

Have a look in the boot for the tools and spare wheel or lack of one, you could be lucky and have a little pump and a bottle of goo!!

Good luck with the car tomorrow mate hope you love it :)

Good luck with the new car mate, sounds like a great buy!

It does sound like an incredible buy, I spent double that on mine in March and thought I got a good buy. The part x value is still around £6500.

Are you sure its not a cat D or C?

If you are after a facelift grill I could sell you mine....

Seems way too cheap to me.

Hi sounds like a good buy. I have a 06 facelift CDTI sport which has all the revised areas you mentioned (no satnav though), so it's not just the 56 plate cars that have these updates.

Not necessarily, as I purchased mine privately CDTI Sport, 06 plate, 38k FHSH, HPI clear for £2500 in March this year. The car needed an MOT & tax plus 3 tyres, also the seller desperately needed the money so this went some way to him accepting the price paid.

the seller was desperate??
i think he was smoking crack!!
that spec is 5k trade money. he would have got 2.5k dropping it off at we buy any car

Wow, some of you were right to be skeptical! I just did a HPI check as I was due to pick the car up this evening, but it is indeed recorded as an insurance right off! I'm gutted, thought i'd found a bargain (the seller told me it was HPI clear- lying *******!). Ended up losing £8.99, oh well.. better than buying a write off  The hunt resumes!

Edit- i'm meant to be meeting this guy at the train station. As he's lied to me and wasted some of my time i'm in a good mind to pretend i'm still on my way down to collect it?! Make him wait around for a bit, what do you guys reckon? Seems fair to me

dont just rely on a HPI check mate. You must check all things like shut lines, vin numbers, paint, overspray, steering wheel use, etc etc. Spend time checking the time, if it dont feel right, just walk away, there are other cars out there. Dont let the seller pressure you in any way.

gutted for you mate, but at £8.99 you got off lightly. yip, your perfectly entitled to let him hang around. then get a mate to contact him wanting a viewing, at a service station 50 miles away, thatll waste a bit more of his time

Saj I think the op has decided not to buy it :)

I always HPI check any cars I buy. £8.99 compared to loosing thousands. Glad you discovered it. Had he repaired it with facelift parts it wouldn't have stood put as much.

I think you are both right to walk away AND waste the toe-rag's time.

You might have to pay more for the car - but you don't want something even remotely iffy - and if he lied about an HPI check, then he is obviously dumb enough to lie about summut else.

Yeah I know, think he'd spent the money by the following week on nothing?
I had a trader willing to offer £6.5k and the garage the carried out the HPI check (which valued it at £8.7k) for me said they would put it on their forecourt at £9.5k. Couldn't believe my luck and still can't. Must admit that I was tempted to to make a quick buck but thought I'd keep the car as it's pretty good.

Sorry to hear that, but probably the best £8.99 you've spent lately. I'd be tempted to waste his time!

Was it just a cat D write off?

We bought out Micra as a cat D last year and repaired it ourselves. Its been a great little car and cost us a lot less than a non accident one.

I would say that as a cat D that was a good price, but only if you have the car checked over by an AA inspection before buying it and asking for proof of repairs.

The thing I find funny is that a guy at work had an accident in his Skoda Yetti and had much the same damage as the Micra. However since the Yetti is worth alot more they decided to repair it. This means that his car has had the same accident as mine, yet he can still sell it for the full price and nobody would know its history.

That was a close shave good job you hpi 'd it
Too many Arthur Daley's out there to rip u off
I think it's the best 8.99 you've spent and saved you alot of grief in the long term
If it sounds too good to be true it probably is guys !

Some Cat D cars are fine; as Chris said a lot of it's down to the value of the car when damaged and the smallest knock can sometimes result in a Cat D rating.

But even if this one's only a Cat D and not C, the fact the seller didn't use the correct parts for the repair, tried to hide it through lies, didn't seem to know the full spec and used poor quality images for the sale all suggest there's more to it than just a slight knock that's been fixed up, plus these cars still have sufficient value that it probably wasn't a slight knock to make it a write off.

Looks like it was a very well spent £8.99.

Thanks mate. It's the one and only time that the wife and I have had any luck like that, so I savour it for now.
