just a quicky...

is there a way to adjust the time on the digital display if the satnav isnt working?

I don't think so. Only with the touch screen I believe.

What's up with the Sat Nav? The DVD ROM drives tend to go eventually. It's the lens on the DVD drive, it fails and stops reading. My local Honda removed my centre console, sent it away for refurbishing and refitted for about £220 total. Not too bad really.

yeah its not been working for about 1.5 years. it cant read the disc which is the common fault with them i believe.

my local honda want £100 for removal and re fit and then £20 each way recorded delivery to alpine then whatever they charge to fix it! i think it will be considerably more than £220 all in! how long ago did you get yours done?

i didnt think there was a way of changing the clock tbh it annoys me more than the sat nav not working tbh as its only right for half the year but last night i had to put some charge in my battery so disconnected it and now the time is way out!!!!

there is a guy called andy near gatwick that will fix the sat nav for about £120 but he doesnt come to leicester and non of the local stereo/satnav places know what they are doing with them....

My unit was out for about 3 weeks, maybe 4. A bit of a mission as it was middle of summer and I had no way to turn on the air con. It's also really strange driving with no music at all. My Honda garage didn't sent it to Alpine. They will if you ask, but they use someone fairly local who I imagine is an electrical repairman of sorts. But obviously charges less than Alpine. The system's been perfect since getting it back.

ive been trying to find someone locally to do mine but i cant seem to find anyone that sounds confident to do it.......

just rang alpine and they charge £170 inc postage back so im not sure why honda want another £20 to get it back

maybe ill have a go at getting it out myself and driving to alpine as its only about an hour away. is there a link on here for the removal of the dvd drive at all?

also when unplugged do you lose everything like heaters, stereo etc?

Have a look at this thread mate

http://typeaccord.co.uk/forum/topic/4017-sat-nav-packed-up-today-but-have-now-fixed-it

i had a read of that earlier. i dont like the idea of taking it apart myself tbh ill probably break it even more :(

ive just contacted an old mate who use to work at honda and he is going to remove the dvd player for me as i nipped into honda today and they quoted me £100 just for removal

then i think i will drive it to alpine myself and get it sorted once and for all, i hope

so hopefully i will have a working sat nav and the time will be correct all year on my display which is worth every penny!

one more thing though. my disc is an 03 disc in an 2004 car so ill be needing to upgrade that too and i have read that the 2012 edition is out now to buy. no doubt at a silly price from honda but is it worth paying for or should i just get an ebay special thats say a 2006 disc? my current disc didnt even have half of the estate i live on which was finished well before 2003!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If disconnecting the battery put the time well out, how about doing that again at midnight tonight ?

That's genius  . I'd have never thought of that, yet it makes so much sense.

Not long back there was a thread referring to sat nav "error" reading and failure to operate, mine was coming up with this message, I put it down to cold damp weather and the fact that the car is left outside. I found something that advocated taking a "wet wipe" tissue or similar and wrapping a single layer onto a thin plastic ruler, inserting into the slot (disc out) of course, and wiping from side to side. I thought it's not working now so what the hell? I did it and out on the tissue came lots of black muck, I inserted the disc and it fired up straight away. However during this last bout of artic weather the same message came up again, so in went the ruler and we are back up and running, could be the milder weather? but if yours is'nt working before you pull the the thing out and spend money why not give it a go? you have nothing to lose.

Had this problem last year, followed the link posted above and got it working.

For a time anyway, it slowly started being more and more unreliable to the point now where I hit the aircon button through habit to kill the screen before the "disc read error" screen comes up.

I might give it another clean now the weather is a little more bearable outdoors.

I've been suffering with the dreaded cracked exhaust manifold so I ***ume this hasn't been great for cabin particulate levels, and my car came with a copied disc, they don't last well...

if its disk read error, then its a diy fix as in the thread Faddy posted. mine does this occasionally then its ok when i re-insert the dvd. but looks like soon i'll have to do the lens clean, I reckon if you blow compressed air that might do it, not the stuff you get in a can but from a proper compresser.
