If you get smoke (usually white) it sounds like a blown head gasket. The missing coolant must go somewhere, either via leakage, boiling or via the combustion chamber (blown head gasket). Block test is an easy way to find out if you have exhausts in your coolant...

Unfortunately, I have no experience from either Hondas diesel engines or automatic transmissions, but what I can tell you is that the 8th generation Accord is overall a very reliable car. A college had 2009 like mine but with aut trans for many years, and I like me he had zero issues with it...

In my case they had been folded in electrically and then the passenger’s side didn’t fold out, so I tried to do it by hand, but it seemed locked in the fold-in position. As always it’s how hard you dare to pull without braking anything :)
