Welcome! Reminds of what I read a little while back about the diesel heater kicking in on start up until it reaches a set temperature; you may well smell such fumes as a result of this; do you put your heater on first thing? others may well chime in here who have a diesel as I could be wrong!

bear in mind the extra energy resource you'll put on the battery, and it won't take too long to drain it if you don't use the car every day; I do feel the car's on security system should suffice!

yes, I can believe this mechanics statement, and that means my motor is shot as I have the exact same issue of it failing to push the boot outwards. Will have to source a second hand one from somewhere that will give a few months warranty on it! Thanks for the info, Taffytim!

I thought my rear drop links were the culprit for the knocking over bumps, but today had Honda check them, and it was the 2 rear D bushes only; £58 was quoted for parts n labour; shame I now have to wait 4 weeks to have them done as Honda can't fit the job in until then!

yup, experienced a flat the other day after 10 minutes or so satnav usage on my 7th Gen without starting it up first, so this explains nicely, so thanks for pointing it out! Put the battery on charge, and 1.5hrs later fully charged! :)
