Hi, new to this forum, been thinking of getting my engine re-mapped, my car has done about 125k, what I'd like to know is, is it worth it for my car and what price would I expect to pay ?

PM F6had.

Makes a huge difference in response and refinement. Worth it for me in the way it makes the car drive.

Drop me a line with your location and I'll provide you with a quote and options

Thanks for your thoughts guys, so I took the plunge and got F6HAD down for a stage 1 re-map and egr off, it all went well, even got a warning triangle on the dash sorted, that I'd had for over a year, paid a auto electrician to tell me it was a "steering angle sensor failure! "
It wasn't, I'll be having words with someone,

FA6HAD found it to be the VSA setting needed a recalibrate, which now works as it should, by the on-off switch on the dash, the benefits of using the proper kit ?

Got a shock tho, when the EGR port was being blanked off, you could see the soot building up inside the inlet manifold, anyone know a chimney sweep who does Accords ? lol,

It was explained to me about the importance of using proper Honda air n fuel filters, which I'll act on asap, all engine functions where also tested fully, a few other minor things where software sorted,
We took the car for a test run, nearly a different car !

I wasn't really bothered about getting the fastest speed possible, just wanted a better driving experience, which is what I've definitely got! Smoother, more torque, no double de-clutching pulling away from junctions etc,
Most of all, the guy who did it, seemed to have an encyclopaedic knowledge, and new exactly what he was doing with the right Honda kit to use!

Yep. Money well spent. I don't care for peak figures, as mine rarely goes past 3500rpm.

The change in bottom end torque, throttle response, and reduction of turbo lag is exactly what I wanted, and exactly what I got from Fahad.

Good news David, don't worry about the soot, I took my car back to fahad one year after the remap because when I had the remap done a year ago one injector came up outside it's normal range on the diagnostic. ONE year later, using shell v power all the injectors Came up well within range. In fact fahad commented that they were better than a car he had recently scanned with 1/3rd of the Miles on my car. All that crap will clear out soon. my car is sensitive to the air filter as well, so best to use all genuine main dealer parts.

Hi David,

thanks for the kind words. I love reading feedback like this, when an owner feels they've got exactly what they wanted.. and a car they've owned for years, feels like a new car to them.

Speak to Holdcroft Honda tomorrow, mention my name or the forum and you'll secure an excellent price on any Honda parts you might need.

I would replace both air and fuel filter with genuine Honda at the least.

All the best

Fahad

Hi Guys, just spoke to Holdcroft Honda Parts in Stafford, think the guy said his name was Martin, mention Fahad, couldn’t have been nicer, Honda Fuel n Air filters on there way, £45.48 inc VAT & Discount, Now i know where to go if i need Honda Parts, always used to dread going to local Toyota Dealer, I’ve had three, also found some old receipts, that id forgotten about, new ABS sensor, fitted at my garage nearly two years ago, then i took it to an auto electrician shortly after to investigate a waning triangle on the dash, think they said it needed a new sensor, Both things fixed by Fahad, the triangle was the VSA system which is now working as it should,
Anyone used the BG248 Diesel Additive ?
Just wondered if its ok ?

Good news about the soot as well F2raf, my 3&4 injectors where starting to wander, the problem i had, loss of power, running ruff, just wondering if it may have been the build up of soot affecting 3&4?

My car just got loads of redex thrown through it after I bought it. It's really just a case of cleaning the deposits from the injectors.

The best thing to do would be to remove the inlet manifold and give everything a good clean, and to strip and clean the turbo too.

If you're not feeling that brave, Fahad's guys can do them.

Taking your car to a specialist to have the motor terracleaned is a great idea too.

Great news about your experience with Holdcroft, and yes Martin is a very nice guy.

For now I would just stick with the filter change and see how it goes. You should start to feel an improvement as the inlet cleans itself out following the EGR blank. Try switching fuels to Shell V Power Diesel. BG244 is quite good, it won't cause any harm

Yep I agree, filter change and run on v power, everything will fall into place. V power does cost more but we'll worth it as it saves gets rid of the sluggish feeling.

Located my nearest shell stations that sell V Power Nitro +, sounds good stuff, ill defiantly try it,
Terra cleaned, never heard of that, what is it ?

Thanks Goodluckmonkey, il check it out,
couple more questions, oil, doing a bit of checking up after my props, I've noticed my garage has been using "Honda Grade" 5/30W Oil, instead of the recommended ACEA B1 0-30W, which ill be addressing just before the next service,
Anyone have any recommendations pls?

Ive always used a engine oil clean additive just before an old change, never any props, i was told not to use it on my Accord, my first turbo car, as it could, due to the age of the engine, 127K, and as it hasnt had a oil additive for a couple of years, make the turbo wear out quickly?
anyone heard of this?
is the turbo something your have to be carful with on a iCDTi ?

I've got a can of Wynns sat on the bench to flush mine with.

If flushing the grot from the plain bearing on the turbo causes it to leak, it wouldn't have been long till it leaked anyway.

Washing the ash and grot from the motor where the EGR system adds to the contamination of the oil can't be a bad thing.

My car's currently got 5w-30 in it too, as it's what I had. Honda say it's acceptable, but 0w-30's preferred.
The 5w won't harm it, it just affects economy.

I had the same soot issue when F6HAD done my stage 2 and blank. We saw all the soot when EGR was taken off.

I ran Shell V power diesel all the way from Bristol to Scotland and after the clutch was done, it went into my mates garage to have the fuel filter fitted and inlet manifold taken off to clean.....when inlet was removed, he said it was the cleanest one he had seen!

So...EGR blank and decent fuel...will apparently be enough to self clean the manifold

I fitted an aftermarket cone filter also....don't really notice any lack of power, just a nice whoosh sound from 2000rpm - 3500rpm!
