Hi, can anyone help me on this one......I have only had the car a few weeks and have had nothing but problems with it one of which is the electric boot open and close that does not work, the only way I can open or close the boot is by the catch is the interior of the tailgate the handle on the outside does not work and the tailgate light is showing on the dashboard.

can anyone let me know if I can get a cheap fix that bypasses the electric open and close so the tailgate is just manual and opened by the handle on the outside, I have taken the car to my local garage they say that it's a case of replacing a bit at a time to see where the fault is they do not know if it is the ECU motor or latch? ......can anyone out there please help on this one.

there are a few useful threads on this, I'll try and find them and list them

But basically, the handle is known as the "closer" unit, and it is fully electrical. It is controlled by a tailgate ECU in the roof, which also controls the motor in the roof.

There was a thread somewhere with someone who discovered that the cables between roof and closer were frayed where they come into the tailgate.

To answer your question about replacing the handle with something simpler, there is a non-powered tailgate with a conventional handle, but no idea where you'd get one from.

this thread has useful pictures of component locations and circuit diagrams
http://typeaccord.co.uk/forum/topic/13156-another-tailgate-problem-tourer/

apart from the diagrams in the above thread, most of the content in that thread is superseded by the thread below (best to start from post #18 in the thread below). It describes the way the system works particularly the closer unit, and shows images from the Honda HDS (which reads the tailgate ECU)

this thread not so useful for you, but goes into issues with the main motor in the roof

edit: one other point, AFAIK the tailgate ECU cannot be read by a cheap OBD scanner, it can only be read by an expensive scanner, or the Honda HDS. Maybe ask a dealer how much they would charge to check it using a Honda HDS ....and not just a DTC check

Mine has only stopped working once.I opened it from inside with the latch, disconnected the battery for 20 minutes then reset connected the battery it has been fine since.Try this before taking anything apart.
