Hi folks, I’m trying to eliminate an issue on our project car (8th gen Accord Type S) where the cruise control doesn’t work in 6th gear. After quite a bit of fault finding and data logging (including a replacement clutch switch) I have a feeling it might be down to incorrect tyre sizes.

The car should be on factory calibrated 225/45 or 235/45 tyres but is on 245/40/18. Ordinarily I don’t think it would be an issue but a lot of my research is pointing to this being a possible cause.

If someone is local and has an 8th gen (doesn’t need to be a Type S) willing to spare a bit time for me swap the wheels over so I can eliminate, I would very much appreciate it. I’ll owe you a favour :)

Sorry been away on holidays (Malta highly recommended). I actually got someone to let me try their wheels the day after my original post.. sadly it didn’t solve my issue but at least helped me eliminate one possible cause.

Thanks for the offers of help guys.

Yep, and I’ve also replaced the gearbox speed sensor with a brand new item (went through 2 of them before realising why the little washer/spacer was so important) #facepalm

But fundamentally the VSS is working perfectly, I’ve replaced both clutch pedal switches (A and B) and triple checked their adjustment, also adjusted the master cylinder pushrod according to Honda specs for pedal travel.

I’ve also tried a replacement ecu. The issue remains.

I’ve got an instrument cluster on order (based on some advice from a Honda tech and studying the workshop manual) as the cluster also acts as a gateway module.

I’ve spent time data logging and each time the cruise is engaged in 6th gear, it immediately cancels itself and shows that it has sensed the clutch pedal was pressed. It only does this in 6th and every single time.

As far as I can tell this vehicle doesn’t have a neutral position or gear selection sensor, so there isn’t a specific sensor telling the ecu that it’s in 6th gear.

Either it’s the cluster/gateway module or somehow a wire is chaffing from the clutch pedal switch when 6th is engaged.

Previous owner tells me it’s always had this issue since he owned it (2+ year period)

I can see it had a new clutch fitted 5 years ago so I’m guessing something happened at that time maybe. I’m motivated to get to the bottom of it, along with the memory seat function not working, this is the last job left. I’ve rectified so much and genuinely enjoyed working on it. It’s become my daily in fact..

Anyway if anyone has seen this issue before or has any other ideas as to what might be causing it then feel free to chime in.
