Diagnosing Aircon Problems

freddofrog said:
You're probably not the first and won't be the last , the opening post really needs a re-write, because the compressor clutch engagement test (with relay removed) can be done without the key in the ignition ;)

The quickest way to get rid of the warning light is to get a code reader. If you have an Android phone search for "ELM327 Bluetooth" (without quotes) on ebay , or "ELM327 WiFi" if you have an Apple phone. Best to use "advanced search" and select "Buy It Now" and select "Located In United Kingdom". They cost under £5 . You'll also need an app for the phone. This will be able to read and clear all engine codes on any car made after ~2002.
Again sincere thanks.

Odd started to heat up again then cold air back...

The in-car temperature sensor (sensor 1) looks as though it is reading about +5 high all the time, but it depends on what you set the target temperature to, as to what effect that is having.

Without anything going permanently faulty the only other way would be to get continuous readings of all sensors at the same time, but there isn't any way to do that.

Ok so gave the in car sensor a blast with the air duster....big puff of dust.... seems to have done the trick

Bloody air conditioning has stopped again! I think it must be the relay...any chance some one can confirm which one I need to replace on a diesel?

aircon relay locations in the main under-bonnet fuse-box on the diesel are same as in the petrol (see #1)

Thank you.... I guess it's the clutch one that's the issue

Thank you.....will re read the thread...and try bridging the relay....

Just pulled the relay out and gave it a gentle tap..popped it back and aircon back....

Only bridge across the relay contacts with key out of the ignition, it's just a check to see if there's battery +ve into the compressor clutch.

But that relay sounds as if it's on its way out.

No worries going to order a replacement from Holdcroft Honda tomorrow
