HONDA ACCORD CTDI
Today I accelerated in my Accord CTDI overtaking and when I got to about 4k revs the engine warning light came on and the car lost power and cut out , after a few minutes it started and was okay but every now and then the engine warning light comes on but goes off after a while , I took it to a local garage who checked it on there tester and it showed 4 faults ,

fuel rail pressure too low
intake manifold runner stuck open
2 other faults but it wouldnt show these on the tester apparantly Honda main dealer computer will find these out

the car drives perfectly as long as you dont put your foot down and go over 4k revs

any ideas what the problem could be

Thanks

1st fault will be ff when was it changed and was it a genuine Honda filter

i had similar problem with my car recently.no engine warning light though on mine just losss of power
i changed fuel filter at HH ang bought IMRC solenoid valve which i fitted myself
no problem with the car since this was done

As Brett and Zoran have already said, most probable is the Fuel filter (needs to be genuine, no alternatives!)
Then the intake manifold runner stuck open, could well be due to the IMRC solenoid , this thread below indicates more

Slight missing

If you can provide the actual codes such as P2004 etc then it will be easier for people to help guide to probably areas to address.

Personally I would certainly get the Fuel filter done, there are DIY's for both the pre and post facelift, if you fancy doing it yourself to be sure, otherwise if not going to a dealer, make sure you get a genuine filter yourself.

After doing the filter see whether the other codes come back, however you really need to get those codes and write them down, before they are reset!

Thanks ill pick a genuine fuel filter up from Honda on monday and see if it fixes it

i am also going to put money down that its the fuel filter.

it is amazing how we get no issues with the genuine part but aftermarket jobbies cause so many problems with poor flow.

Does anyone else get the flashing glow plug light when they boot the car when the fuel gauge is just above warning light levels?

Happened again to me this weekend in Gloucester just after (thankfully ;) ) I embarrassed a pair of Golf's on the A419. Filled up with some Excellium and all was well.

Quite funny actually. I went to pay and there was a rather nice blonde behind one of the tills; but I got the granny :(. She goes to me "how did you fill your car with no hands then? We thought we had a magician".

During my demonstrating the reason for not holding onto the pump for ages while an empty tank fills, I popped a muscle in my neck; and now I am walking round like Herman Munster

Gave the blonde a laugh though ;).

You guys where right it was the fuel filter , the old fuel filter I took off my car was a cooper filter , just by looking at it I could see the genuine Honda fuel filter was about 3 inches deeper , all sorted now my car revs up to the limiter no probs , this is a lesson learned only genuine filters from now on.

The engine light is still on though will this reset itself soon

Thanks

Gaz, the engine light will reset itself soon. After you've started your car about 5 or 6 times the light will turn off and just store the code.

Mine did exactly the same after changing the fuel filter, and it's happened to others who have changed it as well, it's down to the system momentarily detecting low fuel pressure when starting the car because you've had to re-prime the fuel system after fitting the new filter.

So Dan, just how do you fill up with no hands??

;)

My car has done about 3000 miles and the same has happened again , when accelerating over 3.5k the car cuts outs and the glow plug lights start flashing , I turn the ignition off leave it for a minute restart it again , surely the Genuine Honda fuel filter should last longer than 3000 miles ?

Where was the fuel gauge needle?

I usually run it until the fuel light comes on , do you think it may of dragged some ***** up from the tank.

If the fuel was low, it could be the same as Dan mentioned in post #7.

The other thing is did you replace anything else as on your original post there were other issues mentioned

Gaz, when I get down to about 15% I often get a stutter. On some roads near me, a few miles from the fuel low light coming on, I can get the glow plug light to come on almost by demand. It seems to happen if you boot it going into a dip and back up again.

If I didn't know better I would say the fuel feed comes out of the front of the tank, and under certain conditions it will take a big gulp of air a throw a fit.

This is all speculative, but changing thd ff helped with the later.

When you did the filter, did you check the pipe routing to ensure there were no kinks in the fuel pipes?

Hi again. Sorry for delay but now my accord it's 110% ok. Honda changed EGR valve and turbo. The problem was dust that passed to turbo from EGR.
Happy now :)
Thanks for you all!
Regards, from Portugal.

Wow that's the worst possible scenario for a knackered EGR valve I guess. Glad it's sorted though.

you know you dont have to go for genuine fuel filters only oil filters are the ones worth getting just buy your self a Mann filter! there the closest your going to get to a genuine filter anyway

You don't have to but your MIL light will flash, your engine will refuse to rev and keep going into limp home mode, and you will end up replacing it for a genuine fuel filter like you should have done in the first place!!!

I hope that wasn't a serious comment or attempt at advice. If so, then just use the search button and see how many diesel problems have been caused due to non genuine fuel filters and see if you want to stick to that comment.

Almost ALL none genuine Honda ICTDI fuel filters will cause the engine to start misfiring

I sell car parts and ive never in my life seen a fuel or oil filter come back for these reasons.....

That may be so, but we run the Accord forums and we see it almost on a daily basis. Go figure.
