Hi guys just had a full service done on my ctdi accord , I do the same 70mile trip every weekend before the service I was getting 54.7 mpg today I've made the trip no changes and was reading 35mpg the service was done by a ex honda garage they admitted to a after market fuel filter and told me they use the same filter on all their honda's with no problems... could this be the reason for the drop in mpg or something else ? Thanks in advance

I don't know if it will affect mpg, but on this forum there are countless threads on the wrong fuel filter used on the diesel, which causes problems. Only the OEM fuel filter should be used on the diesel.

I wouldn't rely too much on the trip computer and instead look at real world consumption. But change your garage and use someone who is prepared to fit genuine parts

Thanks guys I filled up yesterday so will know in a couple of weeks weather it's the same or using more

I bought my accord iCTDi (80K miles) a month ago and bought all filters from eBay but fuel filter still not changed, I didn't know it is so sensitive to this filter and now I don't dare to change it reading your opinions...Is it really 100% sure not genuine filters always make problems or just particular brands or just some times?

It's not worth skimping on fuel filter you can get the genuine bosch one from mister auto for 18quid.

Can only speak from my experience but bought a 2.2 accord diesel (didn't really know at the time about the sensitivity on fuel filters) so happy for the garage I bought from to give it a service before I bought. Not long after it developed a stutter\hesitation when under heavy load. Read on here, changed the filter to a genuine one (the garage had not used genuine one) and hey presto, no further problems !
Did an oil change very shortly after too, as don't know what they used.

Absolutely only ever use genuine fuel filters on the diesel accord. I'm not scaremongering, just go with the collective wisdom.

OK but what is physically wrong of non genuine filters? Honda owners here say the same for glow plugs as well. I would ask same question about glow plugs...

Have a look round man. I've no idea what causes it, but if it's not OEM fuel filter, you will have trouble. It's been tried and tested by every diesel owning member here. The number of people who sign up having problems with limp mode etc after having just put a non OEM filter in is very high indeed. Once the OEM filter's in, all's good. Like I say, I don't know what the reason is, but so many people cannot be wrong.

Put another way, there has never been anyone come on this forum with an OEM diesel fuel filter to say that the filter itself caused issue, whereas there are a very large number of threads where people have had specific issues which point to non-OEM filter, and when the filter is changed to OEM, the car is ok.

And don't forget that there are probably a large number of non-members of the forum who have found the threads, switched to OEM, and cured the fault that forced them to find the thread

You could be right that it might be possible to get away with non-OEM filters, but it's not heard of to get issues with OEM filters
