Bought an accord 1.8 Sport with 110000 miles on it i got the car for £540.

Since i've had it i;'ve discovered a few issues with it

I've had to replace all 4 tyres which i knew i'd have to do, but i discovered at the tyre place that the rear left tyre was a SNOW tyre and the wrong size.
The rear right tyre had a bodged repair job done to it and was dangerous

I then took it to a Honda specialist to get a full service, gearbox oil change and EGR cleaning.
When he opened the bonnet he grabbed a wire out of know where and said "Who the **** has done that!"
It appears whoever replaced the battery with the new one, didn't remove the old broken life connector and left it on the engine block and used some dodgy old piece of wire to make up the connection

Admittedly i don't know much about cars and didn't spot anything out of order, however the car feels tight and smooth to drive with no noises or knocks so i'm still happy with my purchase and willing to invest to get her in tip top order

i've replaced the semi synthetic crap that was in the engine with some fuchs ***an 5w40, however i've ordered some motul oil and i'll stick that in soon i aim to get rid of all the crud that i know will have accumulated in the engine due to chav money scrimping ownership.

Moral of the story - DO NOT buy cars from chavvy single mothers

You will enjoy your ownership of your accord the 1.8 is a little under powered but it sticks to the corners enjoy fella

the front seatbelts dont retract back but i think i know how to fix this after reading these forums.

The accelerator pedal feels a bit "grindy" when i depress it like something definitely needs lubricating.

Seatbelts - often the webbing just needs a good scrub to get it more pliable and reeling in better. Generally don't get touched when spring cleaning the car and 15 years of rubbing up against drivers with dubious personal hygiene begins to tell... Worked with mine.

The seatbelt mechanism on the Accord is a bit rubbish tbh, it twists around too much and then doesnt retract up properly.

I took the trip off today and gave the seatbelt a good wash with fairy liquid and hot water.
It a LOT better now, but not 100% perfect like in my old cars. Might see how it goes and give it another clean soon.

Accelerator cable is still "grindy".. kinda annoying. It's more grindy when i depress the pedal (ie to slow down)

i'm NOT mechanically minded when it comes to cars and i havne got a clue.

Would wd40 on the throttle cable and mechanism help?
Perhaps lithium grease.

I have a feeling the cable might need replacing.

Usually you get muck build up inside the plastic bits, you wont be able to see them, you have take the plastic cover off.

As for the cable, it might be the pedelbox, grease it up a bit. All Wd40 would do is clean it up, the cable shouldnt need grease, might has none it from what I can see.

re: throttle pedal, bear in mind there's 3 main possibilities there.. it's a bit like a bike brake cable, isn't it, so 1, the cable dragging inside the plastic tubing, dont think that's likely as it would have to fray the metal cable itself and I think youd notice that level of wear

2nd, the hinge the pedal itself hangs on, is there any **** in that? give that a good blast with WD while pumping pedal. (old towel behind it to save your carpet)

3rd the mech. that the other end moves (i.e. what is connected to the butterfly on the inlet) this could have s**** in it and might need a blast as well, had a quick look at mine and first impressions it isn't majorly complicated to take apart and clean

worst one is surely the pedal hinge, just in terms of actually getting at it :S my least favoured position lol upside down under the steering wheel

replacing that cable I have to say sounds like real ball-ache, just getting at it from both sides.. but I may be wrong, maybe someone has found an easy way?
