Sorry if this has been posted else where but I couldn't find any problems that exactly matched what I'm experiencing. Twice after driving up a hill the car has then stall and refused to start. Both times the fuel light has come on a couple of days before, though I've only done a max of around 15miles with it on.

Is the fuel pickup at the front of the tank and so I'm sucking in air? This doesn't seem like it can be the problem as:

it would be a really bad design!
I wasn't going up a particulaly steep hill
There was still around 10 litres in the tank when I finally filled up

Both time I was able to get going again to the fuel station by squeezing the fuel priming bulb thingy a few time. It's not causing any warning lights to come on or put me into limp mode so I don't think it can be a problem with the fuel filter which I changed around 6000 miles ago anyway.

Anybody had a similar problem or know what it could be? thanks

When was the FF last changed and was it a genuin Honda product

FF was last changed 6000 miles and 10months ago, twas a genuine honda part. Changed it after getting coil light on and fuel pressure low warnings. Not getting these this time round

I think you might actually have trapped air somewhere in the system which is causing a problem when the fuel level drops below a certain threshold.

I'd try priming and bleeding from the 10mm bolt on the top of the filter, and do it twice for good measure.

Thanks, I'll give that a try and will post the good / bad news when the fuel light next comes on.

You have the answer go to the filling station more often, keep the tank half full, one of these days it will stop and stay stopped, I never let mine go below 1/4, do not trust these new fangled gadgets.LOL

Have you considered this - the remaining fuel could be water? or your pick up is set too high in the tank, anyway my first suggestion should keep you out of trouble.

Happy again, this time going down a rather curvy slip road (I guess remaining fuel went to the opposite side of the tank to the pick up). Fuel was low this time but light not on. Slip road went straight onto a bridge which wasn't ideal as there wasn't really anywhere to pull off the road. Was a bit unnerving. Luckily I had a 5L can in the car so filling up with that and a few pumps on the priming bulb and i was off again. As i set off the fuel light came on - thanks car, but a bit late!. Think I'll go for your advice edgeoftime and just not let it get low!!!

Has anybody else experienced similar or is my car just special / evil

Is your fuel gauge simply over-reading (maybe at the bottom end)?

I wouldn't normally fill up until the light comes on, and then some,

Maybe I guess, though it feels like its getting worse thinking about it. As i used to leave it a bit after the light came on before filling up again. but this time it wasn't even on. Could it be related to something else i noticed. When i took the fuel cap off you could hear air, I ***ume rushing in. Isn't there normally some value to replace fuel with air as its used up, could this be blocked. Could it be a partial vacuum is being created making it harder for the pump to suck fuel through.

p.s. my last post should have started with "Happened again" rather than "Happy again"!!!

Could be excessive vacuum forming? Maybe leave the filler cap loose, or off, when it next occurs (not with a full tank though!).

I had problems with engine loosing power after I drained the tank almost to the bottom. First time that I encountered the problem was a few hundred meters after driving from the gas station. No lights on the dashboard, just no power. The engine would rev normally in neutral but could barely move the car. I stopped the engine, started it again and drove home without any problems. That loss of power happened about three times during the next 500 km. Then I replaced the fuel filter and problems went away. I think that I got all the dirt from the bottom of the tank into the filter and clogged it. As it's fairly cheap (about 35 € for original Honda filter) it's beter to just change it than to experiment.
