What a great start to the week! First of all on Saturday my turbo gave up on the Accord, then this morning, while trying to find a decent garage to replace it, I bumped my company Astra on the kerb and picked the only part that had been damaged and ripped a great big hole in the sidewall!
However, as they say 'All's well that ends well' and the tyre place I went to get the company Astra tyre replaced were £10 P/H cheaper than where I'd just booked and could crack on this afternoon with the Accord :D. So, off I flew on a 110 mile round trip to pick up a replacement turbo that I hope is ok!
What have I learnt from this? Firstly, if your turbo is whistling all the time under load, it's gonna go pop very soon and, secondly, the new Astra with energy saving tyres is one of the worst cars ever manufactured! :p
I should be thoroughly P'd off but thats life I guess! I paid £800 for my Accord Type R and it had nothing wrong with it in the 6 months I've owned it. I buy myself a newer 54 plate Accord and the turbo has popped, the fuel filter needed replacing and the drivers side inner CV joint has play in it causing the, infamous, 60-80mph steering wheel wobble... I still love driving it though and I hope to 'insert whatever you believe in' that it's all sorted tomorrow.
Also, my apologies to F6HAD. This is the second time I've messed you around cancelling a remap!

TBO Andy Turbo problems on these cars are very rare indeed. It all comes down to letting the turbo to slow down after driving for a couple of min. This can help the turbo last a lot longer and is better for any turbo car imo

The thrills and spills of owning a car! Great when they are problem free but can inflick pain on the wallet when they go wrong. Do you miss the type r?

Hello mate, didn't realise you were a member here. As per SMS 5W40 is not the correct oil for these cars and whilst it might not be the sole reason for turbo failure at 144k miles, it won't have helped things much.

Good luck with the new turbo and get in touch when you're ready.

Yay! All sorted! 'new' turbo is solid and no more whistling all the time once it warms up! The garage took 8 hours but only charged me for 3! An expense I could do without but £160 all in isn't the end of the world.
F6HAD, I desperatly want a remap but I'm gonna make sure the car is ok for a couple of weeks before hand as the last thing I need now is a clutch! Especially after spending far too much on a flybarless setup for one of my heli's (expensive hobby I know!).
She's now sat on the drive all shiny and clean with Xcarlink fitted, new turbo, new tyres on the front, 0w30 oil and a genuine fuel filter! :)
As for missing the Type R... 209bhp, 8K redline and an LSD... Of course, but it's still in the garage everytime I open the door. I haven't had a single, serious, enquiry yet. Everyone wants to knock £400+ off. Jog on paupers!

Good result mate :)
