Just before the HH meet I gave the car the whole Werkstat sealant treatment, special thanks goes to my friend CJ who pointed me in the direction of such a fantastic sealant system.
This is a review of how I got on
The tools
Werkstat sealant kit http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/werkstat-acrylic-kit-cat1.html#aMasterZWSAK000
Poorboys luxury buffing towel, these are so nice to use http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/pb-luxury-buffing-towel-cat24.html
Lake country light cut hand pad http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/lake-country-light-cut-hand-pad-cat24.html
Megs MF pads http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/meguiars-microfibre-applicator-pad-cat24.html
Meg’s qd and Bilt Hamber clay
The process
So after lots of SF (Snow Foam) and a 2BMW (two bucket method wash) it was time for some claying. I hate claying with a passion I think it’s the fact you need to do a 2BMW again afterwards that I hate . The clay I used was my remaining BH (Bilt Hamber) soft clay with Megs QD (Quick Detailer) as lubricant, yes I know you can use water but I find you get less surface marring when using Megs QD.
I then applied the prime which basically cleans and lays down a base coat of sealant protection at the same time. A lot of people have problems buffing off, but if you use the recommended amount 2/3 pea sized drops per 18x8” panel and you don’t let it cure longer than 10 mins you will be fine. I used both a normal MF (microfiber) pad and a lake country hand pad finding the later easier to use and the light cutting action seemed to work better.
The prime sealant also works very well as a glass sealant and on head lights, CJ was suprised how good they where looking.
Next step was to apply the jett sealant, this was a pleasure to use as it works much like a QD. You apply it to the panel or MF cloth, wipe over the panel, once it hazes about 30 secs you use another MF cloth to buff off. I mean what could be easier especially keeping your LSP (last stage protection) topped up during the cold months. Werkstat recommend 3 coats of Jett being ideal allowing a curing time of 30 mins between each coat. However PB (polished bliss) informed me that 5 coats works best and the beading at 6/7 is the same as conventional wax (see pics). The kit also comes with Gloss, which is a QD for each wash that is a QD but also puts down a thin layer of Jett sealant as well.
Conclusion
The easiest and best paint protection system I have ever used, and anyone who saw my car at HH I’m sure will admit the flake pop was fantastic in the sun. So it’s easy to use all year round and makes the paint look great what are the draw backs.
Well in short it’s relatively cheap to buy compared to similar systems, but you do use a lot of the Jett sealant if you’re like me and do six coats. Therefore compared to a tub of wax it could work out more expensive an option. I guess once I’ve established durability I will be better placed to say whether this is the case or not. For me its worth it and the results are spot on for my needs, but I guess it’s a more specialised thing some people just wont want to be bothered with. My wife thought I was mad when she realised I was on my fourth coat of the Jett sealant .
Some pics of the beading today after some rain, once I have time and the weather lets up I will take some proper photos for my member’s cars page.
