Problem with car not boosting post fuel filter change

Does the car rev normally when in neutral? Ie. Picks up freely?

Could it be a sticky vain actuator on the turbo?

Bit sluggish at standstill. I'm sure it's an air intake problem not fuel now. Going to look at egr closer tomorrow. What's the difference between the standard egr and the updated one?

If im honest I think you have fitted the fuel filter incorrectly.
Where did you buy it from?

Not sure how you can fit the filter wrong. Bought from Honda. Its not a fuel issue, pressure at rail is fine and burning clean.

If you have a 5 speed your egr is electronically actuated and 6 speed is vacuum actuated.

I have 5 speed electronic actuation, seems to be something written about updated egr valves...is that for the electronic ones as well?

No idea what you mean by updated.

Was your filter one of these?

if so try squeezing the priming bulb 40 times to get real hard, then see if it will rev better, if not repeat the squeezing again. Note the bleed screw is against the bulkhead when fitted, but no need to bleed with it. If I am trying to teach you how to suck eggs apologies tendered

I read somewhere Honda were replacing th egrs with updated ones. May not apply to mine or it could be wrong.

Sucking eggs is one way to put it but I appreciate the effort put into your post thank you. System is bled fine with no air...it would run like a pig otherwise. I'll have a good look at intake system and the egr, possible it's still sticking.

How do these things run with egr deleted? Anyone run one for a long period of time?

Also, I know mine isn't running properly at the moment, but in 6 days of ownership she sure does drink diesel. Done 30 quid in 350 miles!!

Listerjones... How did you get that figure?

Did you start off with a full tank, do 350miles and filler her back up?.

I find it almost impossible to believe that ypur diesel did 26mpg

meaning you have air in the system.
You said prior to fitting the filter all was fine and as soon as it was fitted then you are having issues.

My advice would be to have this car put on some honda diagnostic software to check the tolerances. Visually checking parts is not going to tell you everything.

EGR has to be mapped out but I'm suggesting a temporary plate to determine if it improves the running or not. The fact you're getting no errors suggests someone has been messing with the ecu flash already

Hi Listerjones. Look around the forum and you will find many documented accounts of EGR deletion via the ECU. You will find many accounts of fuel filter issues too. These are probably the two most widely documented areas of the iCDTI engine and it's a probable route of investigation for your problem here.

Furthermore, you'll see from the wider forum that Fahad here has great knowledge, insight and experience with these engines. Do as he says, step-by-step, and you should get to the bottom of your problem. There are many others here too with bundles of experience who can help you along your way.

I can appreciate you're annoyance at having bought a car that has developed a fault soon after, but rest ***ured, the Accord is a robust and reliable motor. One of the best in relation to those on the market in similar price/spec bracket. So make sure you do your research by reading up on things using the search function on the forum. Take the advice of those experienced with these cars and have a methodical approach to finding and fixing the problem. You'll get there in the end and in the future, hopefully you can give back to others who may experience similar issues.

Good luck fixing your car :) .

Thanks for that Steve.

The other thing to consider, and I have seen this a few times now is that someone may have removed your MIL bulb from the instrument cluster. Do you have access to a diagnostic tool and have you scanned for errors? Blanking the egr should trigger an almost immediate error.

Thank you for your words Steve.

No the bulb is in as I can trigger it by disconnecting egr maf etc.

Firstly I'd like to apologise for the thread ***le incase I offended anyone, just rather annoyed at the car etc.

Secondly, I've sorted it. It was the egr valve. Running 12v across it didn't trigger it despite cleaning it and getting it going. On further investigation I found it wasn't sealing shut and that the valve piston was slightly bent. I broke the egr down pressing out the column insert then the circlips and tiny bolt (horrible fiddly job) . Threw the shaft in my furnace then rolled it back inbtween the press. Vernier gauged. It in the lathe and got it centered. Also decided to harden and temper it to stop any future bending.

Long story short, works....

There does seem to be a slight hesitation on acceleration which I have read somewhere on here and it did have it when I bought it....any suggestions?

Not to worry, I've edited the ***le to make it more forum friendly when people are searching.

Glad you got to the bottom of it. Odd that it occurred when installing the fuel filter.

We've all been there mate. And I've seen this far too many times now with the egr.

If you're interested in blanking and mapping, drop me a line.

Anyone else suffering from headlamp lenses being less than clear? Seen this on a few Hondas now...

I offer a mobile service, something to keep in mind at some point. Maybe now you can enjoy the car

The headlamp lenses respond well to a mildly abrasive polish... T-cut, Brasso, toothpaste have all been mentioned on Honda forums (I used Tesco's version of T-Cut on a small rotary polisher for a good result).

Maybe the car will do more than 26MPG now the EGR valve is now closing properly when it needs to?

Mobile service from Halifax too Brighton....if I'm up north I'll look you up. Do you know of any laptop software to monitor these Hondas, one that can input injector codes?

Regarding headlamps, I only ask as I've done a few and Hondas seem to be the most common. I'm a panel beater paint sprayer by trade and can get even the worst headlamps back to new. I'll do a how too on here for the people as a thank you for putting up with my anger at my car ha ha. Never seen toothpaste used before...that's old school...like it.

Yes writeup would be good. For diagnostics lookup honda hds.
