Hi guys, just wonder what your experience is like with the 7th gen rear arches going. As I drive a civic coupe they are notorious for rear arch rust. Been looking at several 53/54 plates on line.

Thanks

Jason i haven't heard any problems with this on the 7th gen as there are plastic protection covers on them.It might be a different case on the 8th gen as there are no covers now.

Don't have any issues on 6g and never seen one with rust on the arches, older hondas used to suffer badly, but these new Accords are much better,

Okay, just one case, but mine started to go very quickly (in the space of about 12-18 months). It's a tourer, and early one (2003) but a slight bubbling on the inner face of the arch at the back (both sides, off side worst) rapidly spread and began to come up on the outside face. I feared the worst (e.g. needing arch replacement sections, welding up inner and outer etc.) but on grinding it back the metal is still quite sound, same for the inner lip under the arch liner (I think these might trap moisture by being inside the lip instead of outside). So they've been ground back to bare metal, rust treated and now I just need to find the time to paint them. Anyway, yes I think it can happen and it takes hold quickly, but probably on the earliest years at the moment and looks worse than it is.

I've not got any plastic covers? Had a small rust bubble on the drivers side rear arch when I bought the car (2005 7th Gen) and noticed it getting slightly bigger! Popped it and treated the rust, it's just surface level, sanded and now filled and smoothed plus a primer coating applied. Putting the paint and clear coat on tomorrow. I have noticed very slight hints of rust on the underside of the arch sills but it does just look like surface rust. On a positive notice, underneath the car is totally rust free including all main structural parts so that's definitely a big plus!

hi all,

i found some rust in the trunk near the spare tyre under the plastic bolts which holds the carpet.
so i will remove the rust but what i apply after?
i need less than 10-15ml for this job, but to put some of this rust converter or the best is cooper grease...
i have to choose between next ones:

all these products above can be used on the shinny sheet metal directly after i took out all the rust or only after i take a good part of rust and then apply over the remaining rust?
which one is the best or do they have they same chemical composition? it's worth to buy the expensive one form loctite, or to go for cheapest one? if so which one? or cooper grease?
or after applying the rust converter can i put cooper grease to protect better than paint from water or humidity?
cheers

The first 2 are best, loctite and kurust.

Sand the rusty area and brush the dust away, or vacuum. Use a wire brush if it is very crusty. Clean the area, apply the rust convertor, follow instructions. When dry paint over with something like Hammerite or Smoothrite paint, available in most colours, or just black, as its under your trim anyway.

Paint over it once converted, copper grease wont protect for long and will just make a mess.

Bilt Hamber also do some excellent rust conversion products, but maybe not in your budget, google them.

already bought no.3, i will see what is happening...i was thinking to use some primer..but which one?

i do not see how cooper grease can make mess inside where is no dust! i put a thin layer of grease after primer..because grease rejects water, moister, humidity...

You love lists dont you Chris?

Any zinc primer will do.

Trust me, its better to paint over your treated surface, grease isnt stable enough, it can be wiped off, or melt in the heat. That why car bodies are painted not greased! Lol

Richsprint no I don't but I guess maybe someone else had used one product from the list.
I am looking for an zinc primer which has rubber in the same spray, of course if exist something like this.

Have used vatcan rust converter and I can say is very good. I can recommend this solution.
Now I will apply some zinc primer and that's it.
