Hi All

After a successful change of the front discs and pads on the weekend, it's now time to do the rears. I realise that I will need to rotate the piston while compressing it, and although I'm sure I could manage with a pair of pliers I quite like the idea of using the right tool for the job. As a result I was planning on getting one of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sealey-Piston-Wind-Back-Double-Adaptor/dp/B000RA18AE/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1298395332&sr=8-6

Anybody used one? Worth the spend or not worth the effort?

Also, I shall be servicing the car too, using genuine parts. My local dealer recommends 5w30 oil, but that sounds too thin to me and indeed my 2.0i 63k miler makes a light knocking noise on startup for 60 seconds. I was thinking 10w40 might be better, and the manual seems to suggest that'll be fine. What's the consensus? Or could this noise be because the oil filter is a non Honda part and so might not be fitted with a non-return valve (***uming its location warrants such a thing) leading to oil draining out overnight?

Thanks

James

Before I flip my lid - please do a search.

Just realised you have a 2.0 (please update your profile with your car details so we can always dispense the correct advice).

10w/40 will be ok but ideally you want a 5w/40.

If your car is a saloon then you will need the piston windback - don't use pliers as you can damage the face of the piston.

As Fahad said James there is so much info on this that's what the search button is for.
Also by searching you get to no the site B)

Good point, and apologies, I should know forum etiquette by now as I've been a member of plenty over the years.

Thanks Fahad, and apologies. Sig now updated with all relevant details.

So, you say "if" I have a saloon then I need a rewind tool. But hopefully my sig now shows I have a 5 door, so does that mean I don't need one? I have done a search and discovered that if I have a Gen 7 Tourer I definitely don't but nothing specific for a 6th Gen hatch. I've also searched google but all I ever seem to get is a load of stuff about the US Accord which is clearly not the same thing.

How did you do the fronts without one?

Front caliper pistons just pushed back in with a clamp so no caliper rewind tool required.

James, my fault I've just realised you posted in the 6th gen forum - I thought we were talking 7th gen.

I believe you will need a rewind tool for the 6th gen, 4 or 5 door.

It's just the 7th gen tourer that has a drum for the handbrake.
