Accord 2.2 tourer
Morning,

I have recently bought the 2.2 ictdi tourer on a 55 plate. I have to say it is one of the best cars I have ever driven. It doesn't feel like an estate, when I put my foot down, from a standstill, it just blasts away from the line. It is rock solid when accelerating around bends, with no sign of understeer, which is what I would expect. I keep having to remind myself I am driving a diesel estate, is this normal for this car? Or could it have been modified in some way?

Yes, it isn't unusual for these diesel engines to be remapped to give a significant power increase. But, handling-wise, I don't think there are many decent suspension upgrades available for the tourer.

I see you previously had a Mondeo... that may explain your surprise and excitement!

Same here I had a VAUXHALL OMEGA 2.5 diesel which I thought was "something else" then I got the 2.2 tourer and my eyes were opened, brilliant motor, very good handling, and first time passengers all say "are you sure this is a diesel"

Even unmapped the diesel is surprisingly lively and responsive, with no tractor noise (at least until started up at minus temperatures).

We had an 07 Mondeo diesel pool car at work and it was very agricultural in comparison.

John - I had an Omega as well, but it was a petrol model. I think they look better than the Accord, but that's all.

and you can get more gear in the back, but I have learned to live with that, but unable to get my head round the MK8 tourer it is so tight on space in the luggage area compared to the mk7. The only modern" tourer I have so far seen is the Mondeo. No wish to go german, Ok I know the Ford is German too.

Coming from a mondeo, anything will feel good.

Welcome

One thing my research on the car has done is raised a few questions, which i hope you good folk may be able to answer? It is a 55 plate but registered Feb 06, I thought all these models were 6 speed diesels, mine is only 5 speed? Does that also make pre or post facelift?

Thanks

If 5 gears so it is prefacelift. Or some1 just swap gearboxes but I can't see reason for doing that ;)

For some reason i thought i had read that the diesel tourer was introduced in 06, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

All VII gens made from 2006 are facelifts. From that time all diesels and 2.4 petrols (i'm not sure of those ones) had 6gears. More differences you can find on forum. There is topic about that. But in facelift you have different lights, grill, bumpers, bonnet.. and a lot more :)

It is quite hard to get your head around the changes when you are new to the Accord.
Launched in 2003 and the diesel tourer was available from then.
Facelift came in 2006.

Easy changes to spot, 5 speed on prefacelift and 6 speed on facelift.
Chrome strip on front edge of bonnet on early cars, facelift has a bigger chrome grill but nothing on the bonnet.
Facelift gets mpg meter at bottom of the speedo and a few other nice touches.

I spoke to soon. Tonight the EML came on and it has gone into limp home mode. Here's hoping the garage I got it from will do something about it.

Shoulda bought a petrol!! Na, unlucky man, hopefully it's something small like a fuel filter issue or what not!!

Well I am unsure if this is good or not. Got in the car this morning EML still on but no longer in limp home mode. I drive about a mile in it and park. Restart the car and the EML has now gone off, the car drives as good as ever.

Well that is a relief. Is the fuel filter something I can do myself? Bearing in mind I have little to no experience, or is it better to let an expert do it?

Never mind I found the diy thread and it is probably too much for my limited skills.
as I have only had the car for just under 4 weeks do you reckon I should get the place that sold it to me to sort it out? Especially as they "serviced" it before handing it over to me.

Not rocket science, there are threads on here on "how to" 1. remove the cover from the priming bulb. 2 remove the priming bulb, the clips on the pipes are a bit awkward but not impossible, here is the glitch if it has never been off before or "factory" fitted there is a clamping bolt at the rear of the filter holder, that will need undoing to extract the filter, when that has been done just pull the filter straight up and out, the "basket" will allow a fair bit of movement, I did not bother refitting the clamp bolt, it has made life much easier since. I know I am "idle"

Good thinking, hope they are as good as the sales man. Do not let them fob you off, if your car is a pre face lift then it's got to be a Bosch

I'm wondering if they used an aftermarket fuel filter when they did the service? It really does need to have the correct filter and the symptoms you describe could point to a wrong 'un. But I agree it would be best to take it back and ask the garage to sort out the problem.

You may well be able to see if it's the correct Bosch filter (part number ending in 442) by lifting the bonnet and having a look... it depends upon how it's been fitted into the bracket. And you should easily be able to see if it looks new or old.

I would say iF they serviced it before they handed it over to you they most probably didnt use a genuine bosch filter. To be honest when I brought my tourer I brought a non genuine filter but since reading the fAult they cause I never fitted it and will be sourcin a genuine one.

Hope you get the issue sorted :)

The dealers were ok to take it back and have a look at it. It is with them now. Is it me or does anyone else feel guilty when asked "how did you diagnose it?" And you come back with the Internet, as an answer. I can almost feel them rolling their eyes.

Yes I know what you mean but end of the day a quick search brings up the same answer more then once lol

For those that may be interested, they have replaced the fuel filter, the fault also threw up the EGR valve so they are going to give that a clean tomorrow, so i am a day without the car, but i will get it back with 2 common issues resolved.

Good stuff! and I expect they were secretly pleased to be given an idea where to look, the lads on here are very well genned up and some have friends in HIGH places.
