Tarry deposit by injector on cylinder head

I am interested in understanding what is coded on new injectors, to increase my knowledge.

Does the 7th gen have a canbus system and therefore you need to create an identity for the replaced part, or does a new injector need to be paired in some manner with the existing ECU, if so for what purpose?

I think that I read either on this forum or perhaps the old AOC that the high pressure fuel pump operates on a non variable (constant) pressure basis and that fueling changes are controlled via the ECU, eg injector timing and dwell (how long injectors put fuel in the engine).
If that is correct does the injector just operate as an ECU slave, therefore as long as it receives a electrical signal/pulse it will operate?

Sorry if the questions are a little dumb as I struggle to understand the latest electronic technology

My very basic understanding is as such.

Fuel pump operates at a constant pressure. Each injector when it is manufactured has slight differences due to the high precision measurements involved. If you plugged each injector in they will operate at very slight differences to do with volume of fuel and timings. You would not get optimal performance. In the factory they establish what level of correctness is needed to ensure identical performance. This is then written on the injector and entered into HDS when calibrated. All injector then are the same!

If I'm wrong please correct me.

Did he give you the old injector back?

Yes, here is a photo of it:

Here are some other pics after the fix:

It sounds like my new injector needs recoding, I have compared the numbers printed on the top of the new one with the old one and they are different. Can someone with one of those snap-on machines do the recoding or is it something where it requires HDS (ie a main dealer)?

The car is running well, its running on all 4 cylinders and no fumey smell so I am pleased. I havent done enough driving yet to refuel and check the MPG but I expect it has improved already. I ***ume this recoding will just ensure that the car is using fuel most efficiently so it will probably pay for itself in no time.

Thanks for all the help,
Simon

you require an IQA adjustment. (injector quantity ammount) if the new injector is close to the spec of the old, you may not get a dtc fault and the running may not seem to be affected. you may find it could take a week or so fir the engine light to come on with a code similar to IQA incorrect data. idealy you want to get them done realy buddy.

Thanks for the info Beefy (and CJ). I have done a bit of searching on IQA and it mainly flags up VW related pages. I do see how it needs to be done though.
Is it a main dealer only job or can one of these vehicle diagnostics guys do it?

It needs HDS I think mate...

regards mobile diagnostics. i know of only one good bloke in my area who has spent many thousands on the majority of the most popular car companys computers inc a hds. they seem few and far between and i would be carefull not to be fobbed off as the differance will be little to non! unless ure engine light comes on which may stump em. i would get a quote from honda as well as diagnostic specialist. IQA is not a difficult process and a good honda dealer will charge no more than an hours labour. perhapse less with some bartering.

Thanks guys, I will get some quotes. At least I now know what exactly to ask for when getting quotes so thanks for that Beefy.
