Hello

My VSA and <!> lights have come on this morning when I started the car, and no amount of resetting is causing them to turn off.
I have read through the 11-page 66-1 thread and I suspect this will be my issue. The car has done just under 75k (service in 2 weeks or so) so I doubt Honda will contribute much.

Now, I don't have £1500 or anything like it spare at the moment. How much of an issue will it be to just continue driving the car with the fault not repaired? I know it's a safety feature and I'll need to be aware the VSA isn't there to save my behind if I screw up, but aside from that will it cause any further damage/wear to the car? Does anyone know if it's an MOT failure?

I haven't got an ABS light on so that seems to be ok, and the car is otherwise driving fine. I have only ever seen the VSA trigger a couple of times (in snow), so given the cost of repair I'm seriously considering just leaving it. The manual seems to suggest that with VSA off the car should otherwise drive and brake normally?

Your thoughts appreciated!

Joe

Sorry to hear this and your just out of warranty. When mine went i asked Honda the same question and they said its fine to drive but you wont have the VSA features.
As for MOT im sure its an instant fail so it needs to be done. Also for peace of mind i would try to get it sorted ASAP.
What would worry me was if you had an accident would your insurance pay out if this safety feature wasn't working.

it is NOT part of the MOT so it wont fail that

i know if it was my car it'd annoy the crap out of having the light on so i'd probably get it fixed. talk to Honda see if you can get any good will on it as its a bit of a known problem

as mentioned, its not part of your mot.
i paid to get mine sorted but was reimbursed in full at a later date.
it did annoy me but i didnt see much difference with it sorted tbh.
i thought about pulling the bulb but read that pulling bulbs can put other bulbs on.
for pure dodgyness, i dare say you could cover the light with black tape

Iv learnt something new today i fault it was an MOT fail sorry guys my bad

I believe bba reman can repair these now.

Hello Brett, you need the OE number for the part. Then find it on the list and click on it. It will then give you a price or say price on application (POA).
if your part number is not there you can contact them for a quote.

Thanks for all the info. I will get it done at some point but its good to know it doesn't need to be right now.

Would really appreciate knowing if you solved the vsa issue. Have Same issue - and trying to solve. Tks

Same here, Vsa light is on, on my fathers car (06 Accord sport-66-01 code).
If anyone knows if the unit can be repaired, would appreciate knowing, thanks

I have had exact same fault, but there are options.
if you have an accord 2.2 cdti you can read you fault codes off the dash (as shown on youtube) link pins 4 & 9 on diagnostic plug and switch on ignition.
codes flash through A.B.S light. long flashes = tens and short ones = units mine flashed out 66 which is pressure switch in A.B.S valve block.
confirmed on my mate snap on kit also fashed 61 low voltage (just means had flat battery at some time)
I rang bba reman who re-furb these units and they now offer just the valve block for this fault as a cheaper option at £210 plus vat, mine came yesterday
i fitted it today and light has gone out (took few ignition resets for the car to log fault as gone & put light out.
hope this helps, just give me a shout if any info required

Brett is correct, having the VSA not working on your car IS NOW AN MOT FAILURE SINCE 2012.

I've seen the VOSA DVD which is sent out to all testing stations in advance of the new written regulations and it states the following.

If the light is illuminated on your dashboard when it goes for an MOT it's an instant fail.

Also as part of the new MOT rules they test the VSA switch by turning it off causing the light on the dashboard to illuminate. So, if you remove the bulb it will not light up when they test the switch, this will be recorded as a faulty switch on the MOT and result in an instant fail.

This has been discussed at length in earlier threads about the new MOT rules for 2012.

Basically you have no option but to get it repaired before the MOT, there's no getting round it.

NO!

definately not, mine passed today with the dash looking like a christmas tree with VSA warning signs.!
They will give you an advisory up until the 1st of May, get it done before that and your ok.

So apart from delaying the implementation of the rules for 4 months it still stands that a VSA light in the circumstances I described will be an MOT fail in 2012?

So if your MOT is before 1 June you're lucky and get an extra 12 months to save to get it fixed, if it's after then you don't. But ultimately it's an expensive fix which now has to be done.

The actual date you will get an advisory up to is the 1st April NOT the 1st May.

This is usual practice for VOSA when they bring in new rules. They implement rules which are stated as coming into effect on the 1st January but issue advisories for the 1st 3 months.

this part of the UK we get to the 1st May, looks like you get to 1st april.

money wise it seems EcuTesting or BBA Reman are the cheapest options if your outside hondas warranty. Looks like anywhere between 200 and £300 plus fitting.
