Hi guys,

Just to let you know the dreaded VSA light has come on, therefore I booked the car in for further checks. My local mechanic has carried out diagnostics and he can see several faults on his reader. These point to the ABS pump, which he stated could be an expensive job. He also stated it could be a cheap fix, but before anything can be carried out he will get a Honda trained mechanic to look at it. This in order to narrow the fault down more. Once this is done, he will be able to advise further on the cause and also advise on any remedial action.

I'm not happy about this as you can imagine, however I trust my mechanic to find where the issue lies before I contact Honda or my warranty provider. I have a 12 month warranty on the car, which ends in December.

If any of you guys has anything further to add as well as any recommendations, I am all ears.

Kind Regards

Syed

If it's the code 66.1 then your VSA unit is shot.
Honda has an extended warrenty of 7years.
If your out if warrenty these can be fixed at a fraction of the cost of a new one.

I was just wondering is the VSA on all the 7th gen? Petrol & diesel? 2 litre and the 2.4?
Thanks

Yes all models have VSA but only the diesel has the problem with the Bosch unit.
Petrol models are denso

All models don't have VSA, my 2.0l petrol Type S does not have VSA.

Sorry to hear about the 66-1 dreaded ABS fault code.
Havent had the issue myself but i have read many threads about it.

This place has been used alot and the service is excellent

Also people have used this place too

See here for a DIY guide to replace it yourself if your comfortable with that type of work.

Hope it helps

Thanks Guys for all your input on this much appreciated. Now just have to wait for the Honda specialist to tell me what he sees. Will keep you all informed of developments.

Hi guys,

Just to update you on the current status, I have just had the Honda specialist look at this today and apparently it needs a new ABS pump. I'm told by my mechanic the car will not pass the MOT test in its current state. There are 2 options, get a new ABS pump or get an after market kit which is also available. He tells me this is a common fault which affects a lot of other make of cars as well. He is going to make some phone calls on Monday and let me know how much it will cost. He tells me a new pump can be pricey and the after market kit less so. I also have 5 months left on an extended warranty which might cover the pump, but it remains to be seen if they will allow for the pump to be replaced with a brand new one, or the old one to be repaired.

Regards

Hi all,

I'd like to add to this thread because I too have had issues with my VSA light over the years. Once it was a wheel sensor that was the issue so had it replaced and the fault code cleared. However....

Last week the dreaded VSA fault reared its ugly head once again. This time though it was wherever I depressed the brake pedal. If I turned off the ignition, the light would go out again only to come on of I pressed the brake pedal.

I took the car to my usual garage who have said that they have been unable to clear the fault code and that the system keeps generating random codes one after another. So...

I'm now stuck with a non functioning VSA system only now the ABS light is permanently on. To be honest, I've read quite a few threads about VSA but not sure what to do next. I have the car booked in at an auto electrician next week but I'm not hopeful they'll be able to sort it out.

At this point I'm thinking it'll be a trip to my local Honda dealer where they will relieve me of these thick end of 2k.

Does anyone know if these VSA modules can be remanufactured?

Cheers

Not sure if it's related but on my rav4 my abs light kept coming on when I pressed the brake pedal, even if the car was standing, I found out I needed a new brake pedal switch and that solved my problem

Thanks for they info but the link you posted if for the 2.2 ICDTI VSA module.

My car is a 2.4 petrol and I've read the VSA module is different. Wondering if these guys you mention would rebuild mine if need be?

Thanks for the replies folks. Just had notification from my garage that the ABS pump has failed (at least that's what the fault code says) due to an brake pressure issue.

I'm thinking that the system isn't detecting the pedal being depressed so thinks there's a problem?

To that end does anyone have the correct name and part number for the brake pedal switch?

Thanks

Somewhat related, the wifes diesel saloon is getting an ABS + VSA light on randomly (under braking). Read the code, was getting 61, 62 and 65. The first two might suggest battery, but I can't find a reference to 65 anywhere, only the dreaded 66. Anyone have the code list handy?

Ive read somewhere that someone had a similar issue where the vsa intermittently came on when the brake pedal was pressed. I think it turned out to be the brake pedal switch needing a clean - might be worth searching/looking into

Hi Guys, Just to update you on the latest. My car has been at the mechanics for most of last week. As I mentioned earlier the warranty company wouldn't pay for a new VSA unit, however they would pay for the existing unit to be sent away to be repaired. Therefore it was taken off and sent away, it has now been returned and fitted to my car. I'm advised the fault has now cleared and I can see the VSA symbol is not lit up any more. The "CHECK SYSTEM" message is also not visible, so on the face of it everything seems to be fine now. However I can now see a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle. There are no more error messages that I can see. I also noticed nothing happens when I press the VSA switch. Whereas before the problems started, whenever I pressed the switch I could see the indicator on the dash showing me VSA is off.
I would like this to be resolved as there are still a few months left on the warranty, and would like this to be fixed before it runs out. Otherwise I feel I would have to pay for these myself, once it is out of warranty. I have spoken to my mechanic, who recommended I send it back in for further checks. However before I do that, does anybody have a second opinion on this?

Thanks again

Hi All,

Had my accord VSA/ABS light on for couple of months took it to Japex today and they diagnosed it as rear right abs sensor circuit open, This means either the connection is loose somewhere or abs sensor needs replacing.

Any advise?
