Depends if going for diesel or petrol. Petrol is very reliable and no real issues apart from rusty sunroof if it has one.
Diesel has DPF issues, not often to get a used 8th gen under 50k miles so factor in a replacement dpf at £1100 sometime in the future or a cheaper delete by Fahad. If...
I don't think the 8th gen has this Jon as my diesel didn't get properly warm until my commute was nearly over as opposed to nice and toasty 10 mins in from driving the same commute in it's petrol brother!
If you are buying with your head rather than your heart you need to make a spreadsheet of all the costs - purchase price, service costs, fuel costs on real world mpg - diesel costs more than petrol remember, VED, insurance, repairs. Depending on how long you own the car for it generally takes 4...
Don't just look at the mpg, the diesel will need servicing more often and is slightly more expensive to service and buy, plus if higher mileage look at potential dpf/dmf/turbo/injector/egr issues down the road. Unless you are doing motorway miles you won't get better than high 30's mpg. Not...
I'll add that although the 2.4 is old engine it is still one of the most reliable units I've ever known giving an amazing mixture of silky smooth low speed driving or sporty high rpm fun depending on mood. I also don't know of many n/a 200bhp engines that return 32mpg, Ignore the published...
That's the reason I ditched my 8th gen diesel, it gave me hardly any mpg gain and the large looming repair bills made me sell and run back to petrol. (Dpf at £1200 required) plus dmf, clutch, egr, turbo, injectors all a worry at the back of my mind!
I've had both a 2.4 and a diesel 8th gen and can say by far the 2.4 is the one to go for. I got nearly the same mpg out of the 2.4 as the diesel, with the diesel it's low 30's mpg for around town driving. All I can say to look out for is a noisy gearbox and drive shaft on the 2.4, that's the...
If it is on variable servicing just ask the dealer to cycle through the dash menu to see when the next service is due as the system tells you this. I would have thought it would be very soon as if anything the variable service schedule makes servicing more frequent than 12 months. I think what...
Def the 2.4 The torque may not look that much bigger on paper but it is a very smooth engine that will be happy to sit in 6th gear around town. A very relaxed motor with performance when required.
It's quite possible it needs another service after only 6000 miles, that's the bad thing about sticking to this schedule. I had a main service only for mine to ping up with a coolant change just 4000 miles later. If you followed the svrs you would be at the dealers every other month!
That is the variable service indicator you are describing, sounds like 8 days left until the next service. It should give a number code when scrolling the screen for the service required and in the forum there is a listing for service code types. Either it is due a service or its just not been...
As others have said, only get diesel if doing motorway miles, I had a 2.2ex that went through 3 forced regens in a year and was then advised a new dpf required at cost of £1200, this on a car with 65,000 miles. I did 2 motorway journeys a week but not enough, I'd say over 50% motorway work...
