Accord Diesel broken!

Hi all

I bought a accord in june of last year. it is 53 plate 2.2 cdti sport. 120k on the clock full service history. for 3 months all was well then I got some intermitten cuts outs when you gave it some. Some times it cut out and you got the glow plug light on and limp mode came in. did a code check and was given P0087 and P1065 codes which lead me to believe from reading on this forum its a fuel problem and the most likely cause is the filter. I didn't really do anything about it because if the ingnition was left off for 5 mins then the fault would go a way. This week it totally broke down on me , it jolted and came to a stop and the glow plug light flashes and the same codes come up on the reader. Now it wont start at all. The RAC read my fuel pressure and its not pushing anything like it should when your crank the ignition. He said that its the fuel pump that's gone. Im bit at a loss now because don't know where to take it to get checked out or fixed. any ideas people???? Leicester area .
 
Well a new or used pump could be expensive but a new genuine fuel filter could cost less than £30. I know what I would try first. And in future don't ignore faults until they cause you to breakdown

Wouldn't the filter just keep giving the cutting out symptoms though and not totally fail as it has done now. How hard is it to change the filter anyway. Do I need any slecial tools.
 
Normally there would just be cutting out, but it does sometimes get worse.

There are FF guides if you search the forum. You don't need special tools for a pre-facelift.
 
typical set of circumstances, you should have come here sooner, now you could find real trouble. Change the fuel filter on a schedule in future why wait to get really stuffed?? The awkward bolt as you will read, when refitting leave that one in your tool box, a case of over engineering on Honda's part. So next time all you will need to remove is the priming bulb and hoses to extricate the filter. This the one you want!! half the price of any other supplier, make sure you have 442 on it.

There is a possibility that other faults (i.e. injectors, pump, rail relief valve) could be causing your problem, but definitely replace the fuel filter in the first instance. No matter where you get it from, do make sure it is the exact Bosch one as linked by edgeoftime, above... other makes are available but often cause early failures.

Why on earth would you ignore a problem? I'm sorry but I'm struggling to understand the logic here. It's pretty obvious and as already pointed out, change the fuel filter which is most likely completely blocked right now, and then take it from there.

Also ensure you are using a genuine filter from a Honda dealer, otherwise you are likely to experience a whole host of other problems.
 
Many thanks for the replys guys really appreciate the knowledge. Ill order the filter and have a go fitting next week. When I fit do I need to bleed it as iv heard changing it can caus air locks .
 
There's a rubber bulb above the filter to prime fuel into the filter, and a bolt at the top of the filter to let the air out... it's a case of using the bulb to pressurise the system, then undoing the bolt to let the air out, then repeating until no air comes out. Don't fret about this, as the engine will suck any remaining air in anyway... bleeding properly cuts down on the cranking time though.

Ok I shall do thaat first and get back with results. I need it doing asap ao might pop down to local honda a gwt a filter
 
Holdcroft Honda (Stoke) are an affiliate of TA and we get generous discounts with them (and usually free, next day delivery). I guess Easter would make it a long delay, but ordering from HH using the TA code (available from a mod via PM) is the best way to get genuine Honda parts from a dealer.
 
If i need a new fuel pump where's the best to get that from and how hard are they to fitn
 
HH = Holdcroft Honda & TA = TypeAccord.

Get a fuel pump from a breaker... easy to fit, but will be a bit pricey. I doubt you need one!
 
So I need this part no off that site 0450 906 442. And this is definitely a genuine one. Also if I need a new pump wheres the best place to buy that from. Theres second hand ones on ebay for£180. How hard are they to fit

I really wouldn't rush into buying a pump. Even if the new fuel filter doesn't get the car running, then there are other more likely reasons for low fuel pressure when starting... injector problems and/or the fuel rail pressure relief valve are common problems and easy to test for before splashing out a lot of money. Pump problems are rare.
 
Ok brilliant mate thanks for the advice. Ill order that bosch filter from that link site as its only 20 quid and get back to you with the results . that is definitely the filter I want then?
 
That's definitely the correct make and part number, but I have no idea about the risk of that retailer selling 'cloned' parts... maybe ask edgeoftime if he can vouch for them, as it was his recommendation.
 
Well yes, it should be, even though the picture shows the fuel filter for the facelift model (which wouldn't fit your car). I didn't mean to put you off that other cheap filter, btw, but I don't know that retailer and cloned versions of that Bosch filter are apparently sold... it could well be worth the risk, and hopefully edgeoftime will confirm this if you message him through the forum. Others, like Fahad (who owns this forum and has a lot of experience in tuning these engines) will insist that you should only buy from Honda, because of the risk of getting a clone. I was happy to buy my filter from EuroCarParts, but I don't think they sell the Bosch version any more.

It's actually a good idea to buy a service kit, as the genuine air filter is the best you can get as well. I'd be happy with a well-known make of oil filter though, and I don't believe anyone gives a toss about the pollen filter!
 
What does a cloned one look like Jon, please do not tell me the chinamen are onto these as well?? BTW not fitted it yet so cannot comment.

Took the filter off today just waiting for the new bosch one to arrive. It gssnt got any markings on so guess it was a cheap **** one.
