Hello everyone,
First of all I'm new here so let me introduce myself. My names Udai, I'm a mug that bought a clocked car for my wife!
She drives an Accord 2.2 i-CTDI '07 plate, the true mileage of the car is 180k.
I've done some reading on this forum before, thanks to everyone who posts on here it's been a big help in getting our car up to scratch.
The car in general is a very nice drive. We have some faults which we're overcoming step by step, but it general its a brilliant drive.
First of all we had a cracked manifold which Honda kindly replaced for us, glad that's out of the way because we have kids in the car. The smell of diesel fumes can't be good for them.
Next in line we have a whistling sound coming from the engine, this is louder when the engine's cold and when it warms up a bit the sound fades into the background but is still persistant. The sound is brought about when accelerating. Another member posted about this and everyone was racking their brains about it, but I believe CJ solved the problem (I need to go back and have a read and look into this asap).
We have a leak from the high pressure hosepipe from power steering to rack, I've tracked this and its visible. A private mechanic said the pump needed to be replaced and quoted £800-£1000, Honda said it was the pipe which will cost about £300 in total. I've found a 2nd hand pipe from ebay for £65 and have someone who will fit it for £30 so hopefully thats this problem solved.
The big problem for us which I'm hoping doesn't lead to a costly fix, occassionally when driving, and I mean very occassionally...the gearbox won't shift into gear, it will become stuck in neutral and refuse to slot into any gear. For example when we're shifting from 4th into 3rd, it will get stuck in neutral, the clutch is stuck in a half way down position and then flip up rapidly. This normally stabilises itself if we pull over, turn the engine off, wait a minute and turn it on. But I want to get to the bottom of this so we can prevent any further damage/stop it in its tracks.
I know I've gone off on one, but the last problem with the clutch is the reason I'm posting today. Has anyone heard of this before? I'm a rookie when it comes to cars but I've spoken to a few mates that say if its a gearbox problem then it won't just sort itself out by turning the engine off and on.
I'm in contact with the garage who regularly serviced the car, im the 2nd owner and the first one had it as a company car from new. Hopefully next week I'll receive a full outline of the work carried out on the car so I have a better understanding of what it needs in the future.
Thanks to everyone for the lengthy read!
