What's new

Brakes overheating. Garage can't fix it - can you help?

Stellamon - you are absolutely right. I shall be asking the Honda mechanics to confirm that the discs run 100% freely before they reconnect the flexible pipes. I think I am starting to clutch at straws though - the N/S rear disc got to >300°C yesterday after 5 miles at 50mph (the slowest I dared go on a motorway) so I diverted to minor roads at <40mph and it was OKish (<140°) again.

I am wondering what damage hot discs might cause - wheel bearings? Hand brake mechanisms?

Update - My Honda main dealer has fitted new calipers, discs and pads @ £1,060. It is driving beautifully and generally feels more spritely, so I'm keeping the car and I bought 4 new tyres today. Service and MOT next week (by my local garage), so all is good.

I am 'in discussion' with my local garage about getting some money back, and have given them the old (nearly new) calipers and pads to return to their supplier.

Thanks all for your help and suggestions.

Phew
