What's new

New Tourer with DPF issues within 7 days

As Fahad says, it won't get better, so as they won't fix it under warranty, exchange it for something that works, before your 30 days run out.

If you have money to burn then let them take you for walk, GET YOUR MONEY BACK pronto! lots more for sale, and as you have learned and we all will learn very shortly, Petrol will be the way to go. The GREENS AND BORIS will kill any advantage we think we may have with diesel engine.

Dpf clean is a waste of time and money they do not work on Honda dpf's. The Honda dpf is a dry one as in it doesn't use adblue or any such fluid.i have seen plenty of customers needing a replacement after the regen fails they try a clean then the light comes back on. The only solution is a new one. And the selling dealer should replace it under the used car warranty.

^^ what he said.

He is a Honda technician, he knows what he is talking about.

I've had customers come to me after spending around £1500 on stupid cleaning treatments and multiple forced regens.

I know you can't be bothered to fight it but at this point you still have a strong case as you haven't accepted any offer from them.

Not much to fight, just tell the dealer you bought it from you are returning it under the 30 day scheme, claim your refund buy a petrol.

Well the DPF was cleaned and the claim is still open. When the light comes back on it will get replaced. That's how it was left...

I know you will think I've ignored all advice but the situation wasn't straight forward. The 30 day exchange only applies if the fail to fix a mechanical or electrical problem. They are 'trying' to fix this problem so I can't go down that route.

The other option of simply returning the car under consumer rights doesn't fit my situation. I need a daily driver and the supplying dealer is located over 100 miles from my home. I would have to 'learn' my rights, probably take a day off work to return it and then find another car straight after.

I'll keep you posted on the final outcome!

After they said before DPF isn't covered under warranty....do you not need this in writing from them?

Maybe, maybe not, because you know from the car's history that cleaning doesn't fix the problem, it just defers / delays it a bit.

Hi - after further dialogue they have agreed to fix DPF problem under warranty.

The clean was a different procedure to a regen. They are obviously trying to do it on the cheap...

But it will cost them more in the end this way.

I just hope you don't lose faith in the car itself. Good luck with it

Haha I've been holding back on an update as I didn't want to tempt fate. So far so good 2k in after the clean...

Cheers!

Glad to hear it, hope it lasts for you

6k in and all good under the hood!

As I said before I hate to tempt fate but felt I owed the board an update.

I have 6 months or so warranty left so am not too concerned at this stage...

Great stuff Steve.

The Accord was recovered to my local dealer yesterday and I'm picking up a courtesy vehicle this morning.

No prizes for guessing why...

I've stated it must be replaced this time and will let you know the outcome.

Yes - very glad I have an email trail from day one.

No workshop space until the back end of next week though so I just have to wait my turn.

Had one in last week where the poor guy spent around £270 having it 'cleaned' from a firm in Birmingham.. Didn't last even a couple of days and they kindly left his stud nuts loose and even bent one of the studs.

Remove or replace. No other option works.

Once you get the DPF light on its a case of remove it or replace it I'm afraid. I've read loads of people cleaning them out only to then pay again to get them removed. I never regretted removing mine.

New dpf is in and hopefully I can get on with enjoying the vehicle.

Also had it serviced whilst it was in and new brake pads all round (they matched Halfords price on those).

Now the dpf is in I wonder if it will make a difference to my consumption?

I can only get 35mpg driving like an old man on my daily part urban part motorway commute.

My customers have been reporting 45-52mpg on mixed and motorway driving with stage 1 and DPF removed. 35 seems very low so hopefully it should improve with a new DPF.

This dpf clean they did, was that like a force regeneration? Only if it was me I'd try a terraclean as they do a clean aimed at dpf's. I had my old Corolla diesel terracleaned and it worked great for me. It didn't have a dpf mind you.

Terra clean cannot clean a DPF, and even the specialist cleaners don't work.
