Accord 7th Gen brakes update: All OEM solutions

Hi guys,

I think I may have missed an important minor detail in all of this and I would like some clarity before I get some calipers. I have a CL7 EURO R, which I believe has 300mm front discs (correct me if I'm wrong) would I then need to purchase carriers/brackets if I went with a front caliper set up that caters for a 300mm disc for example Accord Type R?
yeah, you would still need to buy the carriers for a 300mm setup as the slide pin setup and pad design is completely different

Am I right in thinking that if I go for a front set up that needs larger discs I would then need different carriers for example Accord Type S diesel?

also correct, but whether the ATR caliper fits the ATS carrier or vice versa is completely uncharted territory. they are both akebono systems but the pad design differs slightly, and so the ears on the caliper/pin guides on the carrier may have to account for that

Hi,

Great content here ! I was interested in doing this brake mod as well for my CL9.

So if I got it right: with my rotors (300x25) + ATR calipers + new pads + Cardone/ATR caliper brackets it should be possible to make this upgrade ?

I can't find those Cardone brackets in Europe and the price+shipping+tax from the US is too much expensive for me. Any other solutions other than just waiting for a full set of an ATR brakes ?

Thanks !

you're right, but don't forget the pins and mounting hardware!
sadly, the cardone bracket seems to be the most reliable way to do this with a 300x25/28mm disc. if you're willing to settle with a 282mm disc there are options from cars like the prelude, cr-v, hr-v, ITR and nsx

Hi, I’m new to the forum.

I have a 2003 Accord Tourer and am going to upgrade the brakes all round. They’re close to needing replacement anyways.

I’m told I have the 280mm discs up front, but I will measure to confirm. I was wondering if it’s possoble to fit the 300mm discs with my calipers or do I need to change anything else?

Also I’ve looked at the upgrades at the start of this thread and love the idea of the Acura RL 4-pot with 350z discs. I priced it up and I can have the calipers, mounting brackets, discs/pads and braided lines deliver to the door for not completely silly money.

Has anyone on here done this? Is it a straight bolt on conversion once you have the mounting bracket? And will the large discs and calipers fit inside a 17 inch wheel. Will I need spacers? I can likely stretch for the upgrade if I hold off for a while but buying definitely not buying new wheels. (Yet.....)

Thanks guys

Its and old thread, ATR brake calipers are not widely available now days, any other cheap bolt on solution for improving brakes ?

the calipers are still available as refurbs or as dealership stock, autodoc and hella stock them, what you will struggle with is finding a bracket that supports a 300mm disc.

for the RL brembos you will likely need a lower offset but spoke design/geometry is important as well, so there's no definite fitment guide.
from my "reasearch" I've found this thread which will cover any concerns you might have. as for fitment, refer to the bottom of the first post https://www.tsxclub.com/threads/rl-brakes-installed-with-measurements-and-more.124802/

I've been looking at the same upgrade, as some 4 pots popped up for sale locally just as I'd gotten to know my type r twin pots. if I do it before you get around to it, I'll do a short write-up of how I get on

Got my self ATR brake setup with almost new discs and pads. which discs should i use ? These slotted ones with 28mm thickness or stock 300mm with 25mm thickness ? i dont want noisy brakes

either will work, 28mm less prone to warp
noise will depend on mounting hardware, pad material, pad and disc wear. thickness doesn't matter

pads are PBS prorace, some says its only track pads some says its for both road and track, my sole purpose is to use car on road

I Just rebuilt my ATR calipers, its an easy job, just need a little trick to fit the dust boot. trick is to tie the rubber boot on other side of piston with several threads by rolling . Pull the boot and gently push towards the grove on calipers.
and the pins are différent for top and bottom, the round pin goes on top, other pin with few cuts goes at bottomA52BFD79-A5F3-4836-B171-7C2C3D955332.jpgA534B1FF-3661-4C9D-B3A8-481C02917756.jpg

Everything was perfect fit, pictures here
I'm using 25'300 disc since I had them already and old ones already beated badly. Also brake pad I use 13.0460-5878.2 could reach more towards center and be thicker, looks like these are meant for smaller diameter disc. As you can see you def can use 28mm disc, the gap is over 4mm on outerside between bracket and disc.

Part list:

Caliper CH1 type R (Left 45019-S1A-E21 ABS 720741, Right 45018-S1A-E21 ABS 720742)
Bracket Cardone 14-1416
Guide pins Frenkit 811006, Quick Brake 113-1496X
Hardware kit Centric 11740026, ABS 1208Q, Herth+buss J3664011
Pad 45022-S1A-E70, ATE 13.0460-5982.2
Disc 300*28mm Euro R/TSX 45251-TA1-A01, Brembo 09.B621.10

edit. and yes my Norwegian friend, it's Biltema red :)

This looks like the way I should go for my CL9 2.4, the stock brakes were always a bit undersized for the size of the car, plus the drivers caliper is a bit sticky so better to swap out and go BIG :)

@Perunakeisari are you using this setup with a 17" OEM wheel?

not him(obviously) but atr calipers will clear any oem 17in wheel for the 7th gen, and most 16s too

Cool, as long as they can drop on and my existing alloys fit back I'm sold, just want a fairly 'plug 'n' play' solution no funny spacers or what not, just need to price up and find someone to do the work for me. Would give it a go myself but don't think the apartment block management will take kindly to me partially dismantling my motor in the underground lot. :)

Bringing back this old topic, if rear brakes are upgraded for larger discs (from 260mm (stock on the CL9) to 305mm (CU2 rear discs) - of course, using adapters - does the braking bias changes to the rear or not, considering the stock caliper size remains the same, the same contact area from the brake pad and the disc)?

Any idea guys, what Honda/Acura model runs 280mm rear discs that might fit our CL9 saloon?

Hi guys new to the forum, after having repeat brake issues over two years I want to thank this forum and this thread (people of course!) For giving me the knowledge of realistic options for me.

I went with cardone carriers(£30 each on Amazon) (same as type r accord ch1) and nissin 2pot calipers 17cl15vn (same as type r) brand new at only £254 with hardware. Rear carriers and pins for £30 a side auto doc
Fingers crossed for fitting, parts all looks really heavy duty

Forget to say 2003 7th gen 2.4 type s. Lpg fitted.

Went for this kit : https://k-system.pro/en/product/bbkaccorden/ but opted out for the EBC yellow stuff pads to match the rear pads.
It's an easy plug n play setup, everything included in the kit, great delivery and support from Poland.

in the kit
  • 2x caliper brackets
  • 2x brand new, genuine, Brembo calipers 4 pistons with pad pins
  • 2x brake discs (crossed 324×30)
  • brake pads to choose: Ferodo DS Performace, Ferodo DS2500 or Kit without brake pads
  • all necessary hardware (bolts, nuts)

Hello,

I’ve got a mk7 2.2cdti. I’m looking at doing the ATR Caliper upgrade but was wondering if I could use the ATR disks instead of the oem ones on the car. I think the mine are 25mm and the ATS’s are 28mm, does anyone know if these would bolt straight on?
Thanks
Ethan

they're fine to use, no clearance issues
