    Tailgate position sensor

Hi All Yet another tailgate thread, I'm afraid. The tailgate on my '07 Accord Tourer is getting steadily worse. Usually it works fine, but every so often it refuses to open either manually or electrically. When this happens it gives a beep of protest and a warning in the dash display...

    Lightweight alloy wheels

Okay, this site, if you can bear all the maths, is very detailed on the subject. If you want to skip the maths, the writer gives a very rough multiplier for weight saving of 1.6, but also points out that lower profile tyres, while saving mass, may increase the rotational inertia because there...

    Lightweight alloy wheels

Brakes are a somewhat different situation. A larger disk is effectively acting as a longer lever than a small one. With lightweight wheels, your wheel effectively stays the same size, it's just the mass, or the distribution of the mass (or both) that changes. It's a looong time since I did any...

    Lightweight alloy wheels

I'm struggling with the description of lightweight rims making a big difference to acceleration. From the figures above, it looks like the maximum weight saving from lightweight wheels may be 5kg a rim, so 20kg from a set of four. This would result in the weight of the Accord 2.0i VTEC going...

What's the weight of a standard 17" alloy?

    Good tyres

These are - I think - probably originally off a Civic. They're PCD 5x114.3, ET55, Centre Bore 64.1mm. I've also got some 16" wheels off an old Accord Coupe and a newer set of Accord 16" wheels kicking around here (as well as the original 17s). I am very popular with my wife, as you can imagine...

Performance difference between 5 speed and 6 speed diesels

Yikes. I've found the gap between 1st and 2nd on my 6 speed to be awkwardly wide for steep hill starts - you seem to need to pile on about 3000 revs in first to get about 1500 revs in second. If the 5 speed is even wider spread, I'd find that tough going.

    Good tyres

I'm currently running Goodyear Efficient Grips on 16" rims. The car had 17s on when I bought it, but I've found a switch to 16s has reduced tramlining and made the ride less fidgety. The Goodyears seem to have decent grip, wet or dry.

Impressed with my mpg, what's yours?

Possibly, although the diesel doesn't have plugs, so you may have found the economy worse if the service agent had tried to fit them.

    Soundproofing - Many guides inside

I haven't even got round to putting the thinsulate in the rear arches yet, and here you are adding more items to the list!

Mirror, clutch, flywheel, rear brake calipers... it's a big Honda moan!

I did enjoy reading about your woes, Rupert. No wait, that sounds wrong. I'm sorry to hear about your woes, Rupert, though it was an interesting read. I've just had a rear caliper replaced on my Accord Tourer. The official Honda price is about £440 (yikes) but Holdcroft Honda were able to hook...

    Black Oil

Thanks for the advice, everyone. Looks like it's been slightly overfilled. The oil reads about 3-4mm above the top mark on the dipstick. Is this okay, or do I need to drain some off?

    Black Oil

Ah. Should have checked before I wasted a load of oil and a filter. Thanks, Jon.

    Black Oil

Hello all Is it usual for the engine oil in diesel cars to look black? I had the oil changed when I got my Accord, but when I checked it about a month later it was black. Suspecting the previous owner had used cheap oil, I decided to get it changed again after 3000 miles to give it a chance to...
