    Really on a mk6? I had no trouble locating upper arms. I got mine on the shelf at euro car parts. Strange.

    In fairness mine didn't look bad at all and there was no play when the car was jacked up either. But when the car is under load and its own weight the smallest amount of free play is amplified. I changed them as a precautionary measure and plus they were £10 per joint.

    Have you changed your lower ball joints? Are the rubber bushes intact within the lower arms?

    EGR cleaning

    I had the same symptoms. Tge egr plate clean helped a lot, but I also changed the distributor cap and rotor arm along with new ignition leads and spark plugs. This collectively stopped the hesitation and rough idle etc.

    The temperature gauge should sit around a third. The fans are loud and come on quite often. Mine is exactly the same.
