VSA Modulator Light

Excellent - please post back with the cost and whether it was successful!

Collected VSA modulater from ECU Testing today - cost was £165 + VAT (£198) and they now give a "lifetime" warranty rather than their previous 2 year one. Warranty is for lifetime of car - unlimited mileage - and not -transferable to a new owner.

I was told that the "pressure sensor" was faulty.

Hope to fit tomorrow (14th) - will let you know what happens.

Dave keep us posted, this could be the ideal solution many members need.

Repaired VSA modulator was fitted yesterday without any great drama - took about 90 mins. Very little bleeding needed to be done as there had been no leakage from brake lines. Turned on ignition, system went through checks and VSA light went off!!! ANd stayed off until I pressed the VSA switch which turned light back on and then off again.

How nice to drive (all 10 miles so far) the car without that damn light on all the time!

In summary car was off the road for 8 days (Sat to Sat) from removing modulator to re-fitting. A week of this was getting part to ECU for fixing and getting it back. A degree of care is required to be able to "wiggle" the part out from among the various brake lines, air con pipes, washer bottle and ***ociated clips. No other disassembly is required.

Overall cost (whatever my mech charges me) is likely to be considerably less than the £1600 part only cost from HUK.

Hope this helps others in same situation.

Lot of miles m8 they supplied mine and I had to pay labour but you got another 40k on yours end of the day they can only say no. Have you had your clutch done recently as a few post mention heavy handed mechanics could be causing this problem. When my vsa light came on i did not notice a diffrence in braking or driving as this will not fail a mot

It will fail MOT from January 2012 they change some rules
http://www.newmot.co.uk/
"NEW MOT

The MOT test is set to change by January 2012 with the following POSSIBLE changes:

1) Dashboard Warning Lights

A car will fail an MOT tset if a dashboard warning light shows a problem such as Airbags, Electric Power Steering, Electonic stability sytem and additional restraint systems.

2) Electrical Wiring

The condition of a cars wiring will be inspected for damage (such as chaffing against the engine or through an ungrommeted hole etc), and it's security.

3) Car Battery Security

The battery will be checked for security. This should present few problems unless the wrong sized battery is fitted, the clamp is loose or corrosion has affected support or security of the battery.

4) Headlamp bulbs and unit incompatibilty and levelling devices.

The cars lighting system will be checked particularly for incorrect fitment of some aftermarket 'bright' bulb kits.

5) Management electronic control unit (ECU) modification.

It's not fuly understood how ECU systems will be checked as yet, but a car will in theory fail the MOT if it is found that it's ECU unit has been illegally modified or 'chipped'."

It will only fail from may1st all new rules will come with an advisory before then so if you want a yrs grace get in before may

I tried that as well, unfortunately mine couldn't be repaired so I lost quite a bit of money and was back at square one.

I ended up keeping the pressure on Honda and got mine done for labour cost only - was a learning curve for sure.

Check!

Yes, my Accord sailed through the MOT today with the VSA lights blazing away!
Inspector said to get it fixed before next year as it will be a fail.

The new MOT rules take effect from 1st January. However with all new rules that are brought into the MOT, for the first 3 months testers are able to offer advisory notes. So as from the 1st of April the car will fail if it has a VSA issue not the 1st of May.

AA Mot rule changes

Silly question.............

All three of my warning lights are on ABS , ! , and VSA ,,, is this the tell tale sign or maybe just a abs unit ??

Simon - get the codes read first and don't panic.

Mine had all three lights on and it was just an ABS sensor which I changed myself.

Turned car on this morning all nasty lights stayed off !!! Maybe it was a bad dream !!!

In that case definitely an ABS sensor mate.

Well had my car 5 months ish now and only the second time since I drove it after last weeks MOT pass I get just the VSA light on, there really does have to be something to the light coming on after a service/MOT due to damage or some such. It's a 56 plate with 58k on the clock so I guess I had better get it down to the garage sharpish to have it diagnosed, I tell ya the amount of S**t I have had to deal with this month its like Feb has been cursed for me.

56 plate ,,, i wouldnt bother mate.

Technically should have until September odd by my reckoning, Just checking over my documentation etc to go in armed with all the facts. Honestly I have had it up to here with all things cars at the moment, If I didn't live 13miles from work i'd get a ruddy push bike ;)

Good luck mate if your still in the warranty bracket you have nothing to worry about

Just an update folks, took it in 10am today to Dunstable Honda, 11am they came out said yup VSA had failed with a 66.1 error and they'd replace it free no problem they just had to order the parts in and would get me book in asap.
One weight off my mind I can tell you.

hi
my honda accord 2007 with 109k diesel giving me that codes

codes
61-01 battrey voltage failure
66-01 brake pressure sensor failure
anyone plz help

hi there.
new to these forums.

My Honda accord 2006 with 160 on clock.
VSA light came on so got it diagnosed from local mechanic and tried resetting but didn't work, instead all abs, vsa and handbrake light came on. So decided to take to Honda. Came home started the car and all lights went off. Drove a few miles and vsa comes back on. Next day took the car to Honda Manchester diagnosed and told 66-1 error code- brake pressure sensor failure requires new abs pump, £1986 quoted for repair. So went back to local mechanic and got diagnosed again, this time cleared faults with snap on. after about 4 starts VSA light came back on. what is the best solution to this problem? can't afford £1986 for repair. thanks in advance.

Don't trust dealer as my exhaust manifold was changed under warranty but wasn't fixed properly, nearly blow my engine as it had some oil leak due to the manifold change.

Welcome to TA unfortunately the code 66.1 means that the unit needs replacing. There are 2 other options for this as mentioned in this thread.

1/ try to source a seconded hand one but you risk of this happening again if its not the modified part.

2/ Try and get the unit repaired there are links on this thread to where and how.

BBA reman £200 they will fix it and mod so it doesn't happen again, fit yourselves. No point messing with honda goodwill on this if out of warranty, or used breaker parts.

Hi guys

Ive got the dreaded VSA light on which my local Honda garage has diagnosed as the 66-1 problem.

Tomorrow, I'll be contacting Honda UK as I dont want to left to pay nearly £2k for a car an 06 plate that Ive not long bought.

Anyways, the Service Engineer mentioned that he had previously worked for Volvo (I think) , The modulater used in Honda was the same as a Volvo and had the same build quality!!!!

He said that he knew of an auto-electrician who was able to fix the diode in the modulater and thus fix the light being on problem. He wasnt sure if this would also apply to Honda.

Can anyone advise me that if I find a good auto-electrician ( a Bosch one was recommended) that they could do the job for a fraction of the price?

Thanks in advance

Joonyer

Hi. Had problem with vsa a while back. Not had time to update. Changed vsa pump with second hand one but didn't go off. Sent off to bba reman. Was back within no time. Fitted on car and result. Perfecto. Best to get it fixed from them, quick and easy. Thanks for your input guys.

Glad your sorted fella and thanks for the feedback

Merry Xmas All !!!

All 3 lights been on for a while now, approaching MOT time, so gonna have to have a go at replacing the abs sensors, couple of q's ....

Is there an easy way to tell which one of the rear sensors has gone ? Or should I just replace both ?

No chance of refurbing existing units ?

Do we have any good sources of cheap replacement units ?

Is this snag an mot fail ?

On a diff issue, Ive had some Hids to fit for a while now, are they still ok for mot's ?

If you get the codes read it will tell you what sencor has gone.
It is a mot faliler and you might source a replacement from the USA for the txs

You do really need to have the codes read to know what part needs replacing... buying your own reader would probably be the best option, imo, but make sure it'll read all codes (including those connected with VSA issues),

If you need a sensor they're much cheaper if you buy from a US supplier, but you need to buy one for a Honda Acura TSX (but not the US Accord, as it's different).

EDIT: If you have a multimeter/ohmeter, then you could go around all wheel sensors and check the connectors to see if one has gone open (or short) circuit. But I can't think of how you'd check the main VSA unit
