    Another crank

I tend to agree about the rebuild not being perfect but I am worried about the oil. After 6000 miles the oil had a very poor consistency and looked as if had been used for many more miles. I also bought 25 litres of Exol Vanguard Rally 20/50 for my Air Cooled 911 and when driven hard the oil...

    Another crank

I just don't have the patience or the time to try to tackle another rebuild even if the supplier deals with some of the costs - which I think is unlikely. I feel it is time to cut my losses and sell as a project or break it for parts as everything else is sound. I have it on EBay for £1100 but...

    Another crank

Mileage is 160K and the car is driven relatively carefully- 2500rpm Motorway cruising and not abused. The engine was exchanged with a rebuilt unit 15k miles ago from a specialist in Stockport. The Megane which spun a centre main used the same oil. Oil was changed every 6000 miles since rebuild.

    Another crank

Having had crank problems with my 04 Tourer about 2 years ago and having rebuilt the engine with a replacement crank, rods etc. the bl**dy thing has failed again. (Spun big end) We have been using EXOL 0-30W oil changes at 6000 mile intervals and checked for level once a week. We also have a...

    7th Gen Diesel, Buying advice?

The preface lift 5 speed models are just too expensive to repair when anything goes wrong. Exchange engines at about £2k means that any significant fault renders the car worthless. The same sort of issues with VSA and Tailgates. If it hasn't had new chains and idlers - both timing and oil...

Accord Tourer 2004 Tailgate Struts Replacement Guide

Finally sorted out this problem. I sent both the tailgate struts to either re-condittion or replace. The pair that were returned were both 350mm long and we tried to fit the Strut on the Right Hand Side of the tailgate as this is a little easier. The strut was about 8mm too long which agrees...

Accord Tourer 2004 Tailgate Struts Replacement Guide

Does anyone have the dimensions of a standard Tailgate Strut for an 04 Diesel Tourer. I need the measurement from ball joint centre to ball joint centre. (Just found this on an earlier thread - 342mm - I should have read this thread with more detail.) I sent my struts to a well known company...

    Rolling in gear

Surely in 1st gear the overall gear ratio is about 15:1. This would mean that the engine would turn over 15 times for 1 wheel revolution. The wheel circumference is about 80" so a foot of movement is just more than two engine revolutions. I would have thought that the compression would hold...

    2006 CDTI

Thanks, I guess that the 6 speed is a facelift model?

    Noisy or Rattling timing chain

Lets face it guys these engines are just poorly designed and badly supported. Every ad you read when someone is selling them says 'avoid cam belt problems these engines have a chain' Bad joke really. I have sent Watchdog the history of my car and the rubbish I have been told by Honda. I can...

    2006 CDTI

Have the Timing Chain and tensioner issues of the earlier CDTI engine been resolved on the 06 models? Having had to change the chain and tensioner on a 2004 engine I am not up to have to do it again on an 06. I like the spec of the car and the idea of the 6 speed box but the time/cost of...

    Selling My Tourer

I doubt if it will need a new crank as I am confident that only one bearing has picked up and oil pressure is still good. It has't had much time to run the crank even on one journal. There is no underlying rumble that would indicate it needs a new crank. Once the subframe has been dropped the...

    Selling My Tourer

I have an 04 CTDI Executive Tourer that is quite clean and has only one fault. It has a knock on the crank and it is now clear that one of the big ends has picked up. It has had a new timing chain and tensioner after the main dealer diagnosed the knock as a timing chain!!! It has been driven...

    Knocking Tappet

I don't really agree that an oil pressure warning light should mean too late as otherwise there would be no point. I believe oil lights should be set to a pressure limit that means there is some time to investigate the problem. There are many cars on the market that have dual sensors - one...

    Knocking Tappet

I have come to the conclusion that the knock must be the crank and that my entire diagnosis has been wrong. :( I replaced the suspect lifter with one that would fully pressurise when out of the engine and de-pressurised it before it was fitted. Still knocks and I am now quite fed up. When I...
